Psycho loli Kaede ftw?

The winter season is proving to be pretty boring, SHUFFLE! Memories is only the second series I’ve picked up besides Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora (Hidamari Sketch awaits subs). When I heard of this series I initially hoped for a sequel, but after some thought figured it wasn’t likely and would probably be boring anyways. So I set my hopes up for a remake, which although just over a year after the original, would have potential for awesomeness a la Kanon…

Who knew they were being literal when they said “Memories”, because this series has just been one huge flashback so far D=

Episode Rating: Old’d/10

There’s not much to say for the summary, the episode, much like the previous, was a flashback. However, this time it was character specific, taking us down memory lane for Fuyou Kaede. From her traumatic childhood past with Rin to her dedicated housewife present with…uh…Rin, it was all crammed into 20 minutes of flashbacks. If you’re a SHUFFLE! virgin and want to know what happened, I suggest you go watch the original.

_|￣|○

On the bright side, NAVEL did get off their lazy asses and make a new OP and ED sequences, featuring Kaede no less. The songs weren’t especially catchy or well sung, but it was the only new animation we got to see all episode long, so I found myself enjoying them, especially the ED sequence.

Thoughts

With a lack of motivation to try and remember what I was thinking while watching the original SHUFFLE!, I instead present you with a physics primer:

The Physics (or lack thereof) of Kaede’s boxcutters

If there’s one thing that anime has an abundance of, it’s lolis. But that’s besides the point, it also has a few continuity errors here and there, and SHUFFLE! is no exception.

Depicted above is the infamous teleporting boxcutter scene. In this scene Kaede drops her pencil case down a flight of stairs and asks Rin to pick it up, she then drops a boxcutter on her unsuspecting osananajimi. Now it would have made sense had she THROWN the boxcutter, but no, it is dropped at an almost perfect 90° angle. Meaning that the knife should have fallen straight down and impaled her foot, or something like that, but it instead manages to warp the horizontal length of the stairs (approx 2-2.5m) and fall at a corresponding 90° angle on poor Rin.

No matter what sect of physics principles you believe in, there are very few things that could account for this phenomenon. After carefully considering the situation and researching the theory behind wormholes and inter-dimensional bending I came to a conclusion:

What REALLY happened

…

……

………

…what!? You try and come up with something better. D=
