Code Geass R2 05, For once, a cat is NOT fine

Like a flock of bleating lambs, SURPRISE BUTTSECKS
I need to get this off my chest first. I cannot believe Sunrise pulled the stupid cat chase thing again. I gave fair warning, so prepare yourself Sunrise, 2-44-10 Kami-igusa, Suginami-ku. Tokyo, Japan. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, perhaps not even in this life time, but one day, I’ll get you guys…
Other than that, it was a fairly good episode. It was largely filler and contained far too much Suzaku for my liking, but the final moments descended so far into sheer mindfuckery that you really couldn’t help but like it.

Picking up from last week, Lulu has successfully liberated the captured members of the Order of the Black Knights and the Chinese Embassy has a bit of a housing problem to deal with now. Lulu speaks privately to Kallen and C.C. about the Knightmare that defended him in the battle, he tells them that the pilot can be considered an ally of sorts, but refuses to reveal his identity. A more pressing matter is at hand though, Lulu exits to address his comrades, initially they demand an explanation and apology for having been abandoned, but with the support of Toudou and Ougi, realize that Zero always acts with victory in mind and if he kept his movements secret, there must have been a reason. With the two of them supporting him, the crowd erupts, cheering Zero’s name.
A surprise awaits Lelouch at school the following day, Kururugi Suzaku has been readmitted into Ashford and rejoins schooling alongside Lulu. Despite being mortal enemies, with Lulu’s memories of Zero and Nunnally having supposedly being erased, the two put up a masquerade of their former friendship. Later, Suzaku gets debriefed by the surveillance team, Villetta confirming along with Rolo’s support that Lulu has yet to recover his memories. However, Suzaku is not so keen to accept that just yet. Calling in Gino and Anya, fellow Knights of the Round, he plans to get to the bottom of this, and to do so he’ll exploit the welcome party that Milly plans to throw for him.
As most of the school events end up, Milly’s planned welcome back party takes on a life of its own and escalates into another school festival. The last school festival was interrupted anyways, so it feels like a justified second try.
Lulu continues to put up his act with Rolo, trying to fool Suzaku into thinking that nothing is out of the ordinary, yet he remains wary. Furthermore, Rolo reveals to his “brother” that his geass has a weakness…which we viewers apparently aren’t allowed to know yet, as they cut away before it’s revealed.

Lelouch is going about his usual task of ordering around the Black Knights in preparation for their next operation when things start to get out of hand. C.C. of all people has shown up to the school festival wanting to get a piece of the “world’s largest pizza” that last year ended up a huge failure. Lulu grabs her aside and reminds her of the position she’s in, especially with Suzaku wandering around, showing up to the festival was suicide. However, he takes the opportunity to talk to her anyways, getting information about the other witch, the one who gave the Emperor and Rolo their geass as well as telling Suzaku about its existence, V.V.
Their conversation is cut short by Shirley. Without a moment’s hesitation, Lulu knocks C.C. into the nearby van of tomatoes and shuts the roof. As the two exchange pleasantries, another surprising guest shows up, Kallen, looking for C.C. to bring back to the embassy, disguised in a mascot suit. At the same time, Suzaku is elsewhere talking with Milly about what’s going on with Area 11 as well as her fiance, Lloyd, when all of a sudden, Arthur (the cat) jumps up and grabs Suzaku’s quill, which was given to him by Euphie.
The result? A mad dash with Suzaku chasing Arthur, Milly chasing Suzaku, Shirley chasing Kallen, and Lulu chasing C.C. in the tomato truck carried by Gino. Someone needs to dub Yakety Sax onto the scene, I’ve never seen something more fitting.
Lulu, quick to think. Geasses one of the student council members to set off the fire extinguishing foam, which ruins the pizza, but conceals Kallen and C.C. long enough for them to get away. In the aftermath of the ordeal, Lulu calls Li to escort them back to the embassy, but not before getting some interesting information about Villetta and Ougi getting friendly back in the day.
Not one to waste deliciously exploitable information like that, Lulu puts Rolo to use, holding Villetta at gunpoint while nonchalantly telling her that he never figured her as the treacherous type, throwing Ougi’s name in her face before she can retort, closing with an extended hand, offering her a place in his alliance.
As the festival winds down and Lulu ties up the loose ends of the day, he’s approached by Suzaku, who tells him that he plans on becoming Knight of the One, the most powerful knight in the Britannian Empire, a perk of the position being choice rule over any one area. He plans to claim Area 11, Japan, to ensure that such losses like his important friends and the woman he loved never repeat themselves. Furthermore, he tells Lelouch that the new governor of the Area is arriving next week and offers him the chance to speak to her. Lulu is, to put it mildly, surprised to hear the voice of his sister, Nunnally, over the phone.
Thoughts

*insert another vitriolic rant about the cat*
I can’t wait to see how Lulu gets out of this one. He usually responds with lightening quick reflexes to whatever situation he finds himself in, however this time is completely different. This is Nunnally we’re talking about, the very reason he’s waged this war. The mere thought of Suzaku by her side must be tearing at his insides right now, it’s going to take all the willpower in the world for him not to turn around and smash his smug face inside out.

Faaaaaaaaag
But that aside, what the hell? Since when did Suzaku possess the foresight and mindfuck abilities to one up Lelouch. It’s Lelouch! Zero! The mastermind in Code Geass whose “Just as Planned” abilities rival Yagami Light from the Death Note universe. This is unacceptable, Suzaku already possesses the power to scale walls dodging impossible gunturret bullet patterns, span five meters in the air landing a roundhouse kick while dodging pistol fire, DAMNIT SUNRISE, STOP THIS SHIT. I really hate this guy…
Moving on, I was pleasantly surprised at how Lulu handled the opening scene with the members of the Order of the Black Knights. He essentially stood there in silence and the crowd melted in his hands. It’s understandable why he couldn’t apologize to the crowd, he’s their leader, and as such, he needs to have their complete trust and respect. They need to believe in his orders with absolute certainty, apologizing for his mistake would display fallibility, which would fester into the questioning of his orders down the road. It was brilliant of him to wait for supporters in the form of Toudou and Ougi to rile the crowd behind him.
Speaking of Ougi, I was amazed at how quick Lulu was to extort his relationship with Villetta to draw her to his side. It was incredibly bastardish moment of his, which, while sound from a battle perspective (the more allies the better) was a morally devoid decision. For Ougi to have hidden it from him, it must have been a deeply sentimental relationship, Lulu would have deduced this quickly, especially when he saw Villetta’s reaction to it. To tear that apart and use it to his tactical advantage was pretty low. Smart, but low.
I guess the only other plot point to bring up is Rolo’s geass and the aforementioned weakness thereof. I can’t really wager a guess as to what it is. Unless the whole thing about being able to maintain it only for a limited amount of time or expand it only to a limited radius. However, given the tone in Rolo’s voice when he mentioned it, the weakness is far more fatal than such simple mechanisms.

Speaking of geass. I lol’d so hard when Lulu passed by the wall with all the markings. If you’ll recall back to CG R1, Lulu geassed a girl into marking this wall every day to guage how long the effect lasts. Can you imagine how badly he must have ruined the her life? The image that came to my warped mind is the poor girl sitting in a plane heading to a vacation when she suddenly remembers she has to mark that damn wall and has to parachute out to get back to Ashford.

Aside from that, this episode was made of massive amounts of fanservice. On the Kallen side of things we have this wonderful shot with a clear shot of her butt, as well as the more subtle underboob.

And in a rare moment of direct C.C. fanservice, we get a pantsu shot. Despite her reputation as pizzabutt and all, we rarely get much C.C. fanservice in this form. Usually it consists of her being devilishly witty or casting off sarcastic remarks, fanservice showcasing her personality as opposed to her physique. So sad that she missed out on the pizza for the second year in a row ;_; It’s been five episodes Sunrise! Just give her some pizza already.
Anyways, next episode looks like a return to action. Three Knights of the Round, Suzaku, Anya and Gino are shown in action, so Lelouch is going to have to come up with one hell of a plan to turn the tide of battle to his favor.

Wow, even Milly beat him. In a dress no less.

At this point I’m pretty sure Sunrise is doing it to annoy those who bristle at the sight of Suzaku. I find it amusing just to see the reactions of the like 75% of Code Geass fans who have expressed their undying hatred of the character whenever he’s successful at something. If he makes it through to the end I’ll probably have a laughing fit. I can see them doing it too just for kicks.
That said it isn’t an especially brilliant maneuver, but it is a Machievellian one. I think people give Suzaku too little credit in their blind hatred of the character. He’s a hypocrit and a backstabber, but he’s not a complete dunce either. He spent his childhood with Lelouch so he probably picked a thing or too up from his “best friend”. If anything it’s going to show us just how far away Suzaku has strayed from the ideals he protests to hold and how he’s become more like or even worse than Lelouch in the process.
Why are you being so hard on Lelouch over the Viletta thing? It is a win-win-win situation! Ougi will probably eventually get back “Chigusa,’ Viletta can stop being all tsundere about the big dork, and Lelouch gets a valuable ally. The only losers will be the students who won’t get to have Viletta as a teacher anymore (possibly).
I can just imagine a C.C. montage where we see her throughout her long life trying to go to pizza festivals and getting foiled and/or “killed”. As for Kallen, I was disappointed at her defense against Shirley. After watching Fumoffu, I thought those battlesuits were supposed to give you a big edge in fights.
I figure Lelouch will just act like he doesn’t know who Nunally is, to keep the charade up. Or he will give her some kind of secret code phrase that they both know.
Wait, what? He’s got Kallen (Nuclear shockwave Suzaku piloting skills) and Rollo (ZA WARUDO Suzaku piloting skills) on his side, not to mention what’s left of the Shisen-ken (Urabe ;_;) and their… Progressive Kni- I mean, humongous chainsaws. He’s pretty matched in that regard, and we don’t know if Li Xingke’s going to join them in the first place. I’d say they’re pretty much even in that regard.
Like you, I really hate how they keep giving more favors to Britannia, despite their already burgeoning odds. And Suzaku should take a permanently disabling injury. Nao.
@ Owen: I don’t think they’re even at all. I made a post a few weeks ago ranting about how Britannia just keeps getting more and more bonus.
Hmm, it seems I’m the only one that actually likes Lelouch for his evil acts. Everywhere I go I hear people disliking him more and more for his low act and his bastard-ness (is that even a word?), but I like him even better for that.
And that Suzaku prick, I really can’t stand him, although he has gained a few points with gathering those other knights around him.
NEEDS MOAR PIZZA BUTT.
And seriously, they have used that shot of Karen in EVERY EPISODE so far.
I love the mixture of comedy and seriousness geass brings.
It baffles my mind how one minute I can be rolling all over the place laughing so hard that my stomach hurts, and the next, saying “oh SHIT!” at the “sheer mindfuckery” (I freaking LOVE that word. I can’t help crack a smile every time I read it)
anyway, in reply to Kaioshin Sama’s comment, suzaku will deffinitly “make it through to the end”
I remind you all again (I did so in a comment here on a previous episode) that lelouch geass’d suzaku and told him to “stay alive” or “live on”, something like that. I’m dreading the moment that comes back to haunt him. that was lelouch NOT thinking on his feet for once. he should have said “SAVE ME!” or something. (even though that does sound weak lol)
Like a flock of bleating lambs, SURPRISE BUTTSECKS
HIVEMIND, ALL OF US. But you really can’t help it because that shot is so goddamn awesome.
The latter is definitely my preferred form of C.C. fanservice, I’m not an ass guy myself, I’m a boob guy.
@ Kaoishin Sama: Right, so basically Sunrise has turned this into a battle between the two to see who can out-ass the other.
Another aspect I’m beginning to hate is how Lelouch is the constant underdog. He’s done a pretty good job maintaining the operation of a freaking army while hiding from constant surveillance and putting up a front to every Britannian within an earshot, even grabbing Rolo over to his side. Yet all the ground he gains is always one upped by something random, like Rolo’s geass or in this case Suzaku throwing Nunnally of all people at him.
@ Kabitzin: I thought it was particularly cruel of him because the connection that I’m thinking Villetta would make is that Ougi betrayed her and told Lulu about their relationship, despite there being an implied contract that they wouldn’t mention it. To be extorted by such trust doesn’t bode well for their eventual reunion.
@ Sat-chan: Yea, but these are the Knights of Round, the guys who are directly subservient to the emperor himself. Kallen hasn’t exactly shown herself able to beat Suzaku, at best matching him in some bouts and in others barely getting away alive. Rolo’s piloting skills aren’t that great, his geass being his greatest asset, and as we know, it seems to have a fatal flaw. Toudou and his gang definitely aren’t up to par with Britannia’s greatest. Leaving Li as the sole wildcard, but he’s already mentioned that he won’t be manipulated by Zero.
@ Nagato: Or…you know, death. Because that’s what he deserves for the crap he’s pulled.
@ Vadigor: Oh I like Lulu’s anti hero persona, I just thought that that one move in particular went a little too far. But generally I find his “use and toss” attitude in which he lets nothing stop him a welcome change from your usual goody good hero.
@ jpmeyer: I hope you’re not complaining about that.
@ Redmist: It was pretty stupid of Lulu to give him that order. but then again, it’s stupid for him not to order every single person who he geasses to “listen to my orders”. But I guess that’s along the same line as wishing for infinite wishes, it’s beyond broken and wouldn’t make for an interesting show.
@ Calawain: Pretty much, it was the defining moment of the episode, makes sense that we’d all use it as our opening shot.
I’m one of the rare males on this planet that actually likes some measure of DFC.
By the way, where’s Crusader’s Macross F 05 post? Slacker. I bet he’s stalling because he can’t decide between Ranka and Sheryl.
DFC is ok in small doses for me :p
And I think Crusader is working on his MF episode 5 post as we speak, but I’m not sure what his current stance is on Ranka v. Sheryl.
She SHOT him, though!
Anyone else notice that Nunally is sitting in a tea cup?
I did not like the Kallen fanservice.
@blissmo,
No, we *LOVED* the Kallen fanservice.
@Shirukii> And in a rare moment of direct C.C. fanservice, we get a pantsu shot.
Funny how they chose that moment to flash a message on-screen. What was that, anyway? An internet “get your name on TV” contest or something?
But she showed off the pizza butt well when she was leaning against the railing. Multi-cosplay is 100% win. And cheese-kun is back!
I’m not buying the Nunally as governor bit. Their family was ruined; and even beside that she’s a cripple in superiority-conscious Britannia. Suzaku may be overestimating the effect this will have. All it really does is piss-off Lulu even more; he wouldn’t drop the deception for such an obvious trap. Suzaku loses by revealing that he is in contact with Nunally and that she doesn’t know about the mind-wipe. Moreover, he would be risking breaking the Emperor’s geass by revealing Nunally to a mind-wiped Lulu. So this is just Suzaku trying to play Lulu’s game and failing miserably.

If there was a need of me in this situation feel free to ask me anytime :D
>>”Wow, even Milly beat him. In a dress no less.”
That was the only time when The Man Of The World realized how useless he is LOL
Now that Nunally come to Zero on her own which is Suzaku’s plan I think it is still a lot of better than Zero think of over 1000 possible ways to get Nunally back from the hand of a man who used to be called “The King of EMPEROR”
Hello,Being possible, to find your BLOG, I am delightful, is.
I have written the thought of anime a little, (with Japanese).
When it is good please link. We ask may!
One thing I was reminded of in this episode was Nina. She’s even insane when she’s marking her things (saying she’ll kill people if they touch it). Until they adress it, I’m just going to keep wondering how Table girl managed to go from suicidal to scientist.
P.S Lelouch should seriously have gone to those Phys Ed classes ;)
It wasn’t that bad. The cat chase scene lasted maybe like five seconds, if you count the seconds it actually appears on screen, unlike the previous season where it took up a good half of an episode.
Haha, 4 episodes of non-pizza for C.C, so she just got a big one instead in this episode. LOL. Well, Lelouch got owned big time at the end of this episode. I wonder how he gonna get out of this one. I know he will but it will be really interesting to see. Code Geass’s cliffhanger is its strong point. Yo, Shirukii, what happen to the scoring of each episode ??
Filller, fillller, cats, festivals…..man, same stuff all over again….but the end was priceless…lol. Way to go, Suzaku. Using Nunally is ok, it is basically nothing compared to Lelouch using a whole nation.
I am really interested in V.V., hope to see him/her(?) soon…and the Knights of Rounds…
And i think Karen is so freaking annoying. Just die already, damnit.
