Anime Blog Awards, nomination results
April 26th, 2008 by Shirukii

S-s-stupid aniblogosphere, it’s not like I asked you to vote for me or anything.
The Anime Blog Awards nominations are over and the results are out, the top five blogs with the most nominations moving on to the actual voting stage.
Despite my belief that I would be crushed in the only category that this blog is fit for, episodic summaries, I somehow managed to squeeze my way in alongside randomc, Subculture, Star Crossed and Tenka Seiha Sea Slugs. Interesting to note that I’m the ONLY one of the five that does not blog raw, which can be seen as both detrimental or beneficial.
Update: Aroduc dropped out and the Sea Slugs Team lead by Kabitzin has replaced him as the fifth nominee.
Having seen the list of blogs to make it past the nominations stage, I can’t help but question how effective the ABA is with regards to their mission statements:
1. To serve as exposure for new bloggers.
2. To objectively measure a blog’s achievements by means of peer review.
3. To encourage readers to move out of their comfort zone by discovering new blogs.
A quick glance over the results shows that, outside the Rookie category, they don’t lend themselves much to points one and three. Although, admittedly, I did find some relatively new and interesting blogs during the process of nomination, so I guess it served its purpose in that regard.
In any case, many thanks to everyone for their nominations. Voting will start on April 27 and will be split into two categories “Readers’ Choice” and “Bloggers’ Choice”. Details on the voting system will be released soon, at which time I may do some campaigning since every vote counts when one finds himself up against Omni’s behemoth of an anime blog.

I think mission statement part (2) was always going to be difficult - peer review doesn’t usually involve merely voting. But I picked up on a few interesting blogs from the nominations process, and that in itself makes it worthwhile.

Rawr…do you find it feels just as good not raw as it does raw?

I think that the nomination process serves to accomplish that more than who wins the awards themselves. When I did my nominating and kept up with the comments I found a couple of blogs to add that I give a trial run for before I decide whether or not they get to be on permanent blogroll. It’s inevitable that the popular blogs will win the awards, but I think the nomination process was good.
BH has two nominations yay.
I should get back to posting. >_>
I’m personally surprised I made it through to the Top 5 nominations for Figurine Category even though my figurine posts have been pretty scarce over the past few months. Of course I don’t have a hope of winning though, lol.
LOL, I wish I made it to the top 5, but no … Anyway, it’s cool to see a voting thing for readers and a separate one for bloggers :D
I see that you are cosplaying Kyou to get more votes…looks like you’re ready to rip.
The ABA nomination process did inspire me to got to some other blogs a few of which I will be keeping an eye on. From what Impz tells me a good number of those blogs are less than a year old or just about to turn one blog year old. Perhaps that makes them old in internet years but still an achievement for those who are new.
Just a quick correction. Seiha does not want to be included in the nominations. Hence, it will be Sea Slugs Team for the 5th nominee.
Really…? I wonder why Aroduc bowed out.
@ IKnight: True, a full review of your peers would involve both constructive criticism and deserved praise, not just blind voting. But meh, I guess we’ll have to make do.
@ Calawain: It’s just as good blogging subs as raws, you get a different type of audience and the discussion is more diverse as more people have seen the episode.
@ Crisu: Fight-o!
@ Adun: I’m not really surprised, you have great fig posts. I nominated you =D
@ blissmo: I was compiling my voting list for Rookie and you were in it, but for some reason I forgot to make ANY nominations in that category. I have no clue why.
@ Crusader: I was deciding whether to ride the Kyou wave or the Hinagiku wave for these posts, I think the former is more popular, so I’ll go with that.
And true about the blogs I discovered being less than a year old. But considering the speed at which blogs appear and disappear on the blogosphere, a year is relatively old for an anime blog.
@ Impz: Thanks, fix’d.
@ Kabitzin: Yea, I’m curious too.
Did Aroduc give any reason, Impz?
Er, this is what he left in my comments… Seems strange.
I see what you did there! Fuck you Silky, you’re supposed to assure me that I deserve a slot!!!!

I was making a really bad dirty joke about “doing it raw” based on the way you phrased it, lol =/
@ Kabitzin: Huh…indeed, how did he manage to -accidentally- reject his place?
@ lolikit: That goes without saying fool, and I already voted for you.
@ Calawain: Whoosh.

He has stated before that he wants to have absolutely nothing to do or be related with the ABA. I have asked him to join but he personally hates any attempt to arbitrary ranking blogs, movies or anything at all. Hence, we decide that it is the best interests for Seiha and the ABA to leave out someone who is completely uninterested in the awards.
Or in Sat-chan talk, Aroduc is Eminem and hates to hang out with Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan.
double post = people’s choice is up. Cheers =3
Tenka Seiha clearly is out of contest.

Nah, I’d say he is more like Rick Astley. Impz is Tina Turner. And I am Barry White.
