Oh God I lol’d so hard

Ahaha, oh wow. This episode almost singlehandedly turned me into a Nagisa convert, she was so awesome. This is pretty much exactly what I thought would come out of the extra episodes, a little epilogue about how Nagisa and Tomoya’s relationship develops, all one huge ramp up to the After Story, which I’ll talk about later. But in the meantime, I no longer have any resent over Kyou not getting Tomoya, she’s still my favourite character, but NagisaXTomoya is great in its own way.

It’s summer vacation and Tomoya and Nagisa are on their way to cram classes for entrance exams, even though Tomoya has no plans for going to college, he’s not about to abandon his girlfriend while she studies her summer away. On the way to school, Tomoya asks Nagisa if she wants to hold hands, some profuse blushing afterwards, they get pretty close until Kyou rides up on her scooter and right in between the rabu rabu couple.

At school, Tomoya is bored out of his mind, paying little attention to the lessons. Afterwards, instead of heading to the drama club room with everyone else to eat lunch, he decides to head over to Sunohara’s for a while. Much to the dismay of Tomoyo and Kyou, who continue to be at odds with each other despite both having “lost” Tomoya. On that note, Tomoyo asks Nagisa why she still calls Tomoya by his given name “Okazaki-san”, he’s been calling her “Nagisa-chan” for a while now, the conversation quickly degenerates into a “So…have far have you two gone?” one.

The same conversation is being held elsewhere, Sunohara amazed and disappointed that the two of them haven’t even held hands yet, despite dating for a few weeks now. Their conversation is cut short when Misae comes in to tell Sunohara he has a visitor, a really cute one at that. Which of course could only mean one thing, Mei. After she cleans up Sunohara’s place she immediately ditches him to go to Nagisa’s place with Tomoya. The Furukawa household continues to be more of a hotel than a bakery, as Mei is invited to stay the night, a rather sleepless night it turns out to be, as she stays up talking to Nagisa about Tomoya instead.

The next day, Tomoya, Mei and Nagisa decide to take care of the bakery and give Sanae and Akio a day off. Being the holidays, business is kinda slow, so Mei decides to head outside and do advertise a little. Soon, the customers start pouring in, but oddly enough they seem shocked when they enter and realize it’s a bakery. Tomoya goes to see what Mei is up to, seems like she’s been telling random passerbys that there’s a really cute girl in the store. At the end of the day, every single piece of bread is sold out, breaking the sales records the bakery had on its opening day.

The next day, Tomoya heads over to Sunohara’s again, Sunohara lamenting his sister, who has left him to rot in his room. As if on cue, Mei shows up soon after, but proceeds to kick her brother out of the room so she can talk to Tomoya. Mei tells him that she’s planning on acting as a makeshift cupid. Tomoya thinks she means she’s going to be setting up Sunohara with someone, and when she claims that the candidate for her plan is in the room, his imagination of forbidden incestuous love between the Youhei siblings. But Mei says she’s not talking about herself, which causes his mind to wander about a pairing between himself and Sunohara.

Mei finally gets to the point, that it’s Tomoya and Nagisa that she’ll be helping out. She asks Tomoya what his ideal Nagisa would be like, he responds that she’s a little self-critical, so he wishes that she’d have a little more confidence in herself. Great! Mei, exclaims, followed by the coincidental entry of Nagisa.

The two go on a small date, starting off with a walk, and it’s clear that something is up. Nagisa is blushing beet red the whole time, but saying things like Tomoya should be happy to walk with such a cute girl like herself. The two head back home where Nagisa asks Tomoya if he would treat her to something, stating that he shouldn’t mind, since it’s for her, again, looking like she’s about to die of embarrassment the whole way through. And finally, the clincher, as Nagisa eats the cinnamon roll Tomoya bought her, she asks if he would want to try some, Tomoya says he doesn’t really want any, Nagisa says that’s a bit of a problem, and asks him again. Tomoya shrugs and goes with it, Nagisa puckers her lips and…

…blows the sweet scent of cinnamon into Tomoya’s face. His shock stricken “I can’t believe how lame that was” face. And the jig is up, Tomoya calls Mei out from behind a nearby tree, the whole date clearly being her plan, stating the operation a success, she runs off. Nagisa is tearing up, wondering if Tomoya might hate her for doing something like that, Tomoya assures her that he would never hate her, grabs her hand and tells her that they’ll take it at their own pace. The two head off for a walk, hand in hand, Nagisa pledging to be with Tomoya forever.

…D’AWWWWWW :3

Thoughts

Nanoha Mei-tan ftw!

Wow, Mei’s quite the little hell raiser, but ridiculously cute in her own way. She reminded me a lot more of Rika than Nanoha in this episode, personality wise, I was half-expecting her to bust out a Ni-pah~ somewhere in there, her voice will forever be attached to Nanoha in my mind though. From a subjective point of view, I can’t believe Sunohara hasn’t tried to pull a Jun->Noe on Mei yet, but looking at it objectively, she seems like one of those sisters that would annoy you to no end if you had to live with her day in and day out.

Best scene in the episode, definitely. I’ve never laughed so hard while watching Clannad, I had to pause for a few minutes, I couldn’t keep watching because I was in tears from laughing so hard. It was Tomoya’s face, he looked like he wanted to facepalm through his skull, but was paralyzed by how terrible the scenario at hand was. It was an amazing Kyon-like moment, had he applied the facepalm, it would have completed the whole thing, and I would have likely died from laughter induced suffocation.

Obligatory Kyou mention. I never really paid much attention to it before, but damn does she cockblock (well, not literally of course) Tomoya a lot. I know she did it before, in that scene where Nagisa was crying and Tomoya was supposed to kiss her or something. Though at that time the competition was still sort of open, so that was fair game. At first I thought Kyou did it in a bout of mild spite, but after she had that same resigned look on her face, coupled with a bit of happiness for Tomoya, so I don’t think it was spite that made her do it. lol, dunno

I KNEW IT! HAH!

I’m so glad I didn’t bash the ending of Clannad, as it was far from the end at all. KyoAni delivers! Prepare to BAAAW!

The only thing that saddens me about this is that it means we’re not going to be getting an FMP season 4 from KyoAni for a while, which is a crying shame, the series is so good, it deserves another season. One of the few shows where I just could not make up my mind about who to throw my support to, Chidori and Tessa are equally love.

But anyways, this is probably going to make Haruhi fans RAGE, putting off their hopes for another season off for at least another year, unless KyoAni really surprises us and does it during the summer. Doubt it though, they would have begun hyping it already if that were the case. I’d expect Clannad After Story to hit the airwaves in Fall 08, so around late September, early October? I believe in May’s Dengeki there will be an interview with Clannad’s director where he’ll probably give some solid release info.

Well, that’s another prediction I got right this week. Now to avoid /a/ like the plague over the weekend in fear of True Tears spoilers while praying that my prediction luck strikes thrice.

Notice Sunohara saying a silent prayer for his h-magazines, which are undoubtedly about to be doomed to the recycling pile

“The only thing that saddens me about this is that it means we’re not going to be getting an FMP season 4 from KyoAni for a while, which is a crying shame, the series is so good, it deserves another season.”

Mmmmm they probably want to wait until the novels are finished, if what I hear is correct there is only one left. That way they can do a 2 season shot to wrap things up.

I hereby revoke any comments I made about the crapiness of last week’s episode……..this was pure win :)………Mei-chan ftw!

Also gotta love Tomoya’s imagination going wild with ideas of siscon and yaoi……..that was friggin’ hilarious!!!

So wait………. the Clannad After-Story is going to be a whole season???? They must be doing more than Nagisa…..unless it’s a twelve ep. season……..

Not that a 24 ep. Nagisa after-story would be bad……Having never played the VN I just wonder if they have enough material to sustain that kind of run……..

    @ Shirukii:

Your blog+anime has officially invaded my “real life”…….I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve said “that’s pure win” in the last week or so :P…….and the fact that some people have asked about what music I’m listening to when they hear J-pop on my ipod lol ;)

LOL @ Nagisa tries to convince Tomoya to say YES and then she crush him with a negative reply.

I am all ready for the ~AFTER STORY~

If Mei-chama had said “Issho onii-chan to yonde ageru” in that fantasy sequence, I would have died a happy man.

@Kanon_fan82: I’ll let you know ahead of time…the After Story is supposed to have Tomoyo and Kyou goodness, and it *should* tell the stories of most of the girls post-high school, with an emphasis on the family theme as it develops in Tomoya and Nagisa’s relationship.

How they choose to develop it will deeply impact whether or not Nagisa has her own depressing KyoAni end phrase left in Anime history (Anyone recall Misuzu’s GOOOOAAALLLL or Makoto’s wedding? I don’t think “Ponytails” had much of an impact, though…)

I am excited for the After Story!, but am festering about waiting for another Haruhi season XD

    I’m ready to BAWWW

Awesome. So ends the School Life arc of the anime. I knew the After Story was coming. Actually, I had heard that there were rumors floating around 2ch regarding it, and that the season is set to contain 13 episodes. However, what with that last screen shot that appears to be of Tomoya and Show ▼

, I’m assuming they won’t go tragecomedy like the movie.

@Kanon_fan82: Trust me, if they’re going to go the way I think they’re going, 24 episodes will be just the right amount to wrap up After Life. A lot of crap happens in the VN, and I mean a lot.

Oh, and I’ve never noticed this before but how old is Mei supposed to be? She’s almost as tall as Nagisa.

Oh and Shirukii, will you be rawing True Tears or waiting for the subs? I might not be able to join the conversations fast enough if you decide to raw it, subs took way longer than usual last weekend. Granted, it was Easter, but I mean damn, I got sick of waiting.

  8. on 29 Mar 2008 at 6:44 amDreadPirateRyu

No… FMP… ? Or Haruhi? And instead doing the After Story? But… but… but… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Those two series are too awesome to replace with Clannad T_T I am officially disappointed in KyoAni, I was REALLY looking forward to more Haruhi and FMP.
I guess on the bright side, that gives me time to polish up my Japanese and read both series entirely before they release the anime… But still, rrrrrrr *annoyed*

Aww, this episode was really cute! And I love Mei! She was so awesome in this episode! >

This episode gave some much needed TomoyaXNagisa romance. As much as I get tired of those stuff very fast, I was sorely disappointed on how KyoAni blew out the two original moments where there was some romantic moments between them, but this episode partly made up for it. Still no kiss, though =(.

I mean, seriously, Nagisa calling Tomoya as “Tomoya-kun” was way overdue. But she really showed she can be infinitely better than Kyou, who is starting to get on my nerves with her constant interruption. I mean, her sister already moved on, so why can’t Kyou? One more stunt like this, and I may just start putting her on a equal footing with Sekai, which I refrained very hard to do so.

On a side note, Mei was on a full force here in this anime adoption. Good thing KyoAni decided to include the stuffs they missed during episode 18. Nagisa’s aggressiveness was pure win, along with Tomoya’s reaction and his imagination XD. Never LOLed so hard when I was playing this part in the game.

But no mention of Akio? He was just as much as being hilarious with his actions. Him running to a crying wife with her bread in his mouth never fails to make me laugh.

Now bring out that After Story!

  11. on 29 Mar 2008 at 1:30 pmryvrdrgn14

Ah well, closure is such as wonderful thing that this episode brings… at least for some Kyou fans.

At the very least, it numbs the pain. T_T

Gotta admit Nagisa was cuter than usual in this episode, though her actions somewhat reminded me of Fuko in some way. ^_^

@ Calawain: Ah, that’s good news. I just want moar FMP, The Second Raid was awesome. Delicious twincest was delicious.

@ Kanon_fan82: No real details have been given on the length of After Story. It could be either one cour or a full two cour series, there’s enough material. I believe in terms of script length, After Story is almost as long as ALL other routes combined.

lol @ my writing invading real life, that’s awesome. I use the occasional internet term here and there too, ie. “Fail”, “Win” and the epic variants of them.

@ Siva: Nagisa was great this episode, I take back all the negative connotations of “moe cockroach” I used in the past. Though…she does still look like a cockroach, lol.

    @ ItAintEazy: “Let’s read together, onii-chan” …? Wait, what?

    @ Pyrrhusonline: Haruhi wasn’t a Key adaptation, that’s why. Oh God you made me remember Makoto’s wedding and GOOOAL again, I hate you ;_;

@ Gar Logan78: I’m willing to defer more Haruhi in favor of Clannad. I’ve become a bit disillusioned with the Haruhi franchise after its explosion of popularity, the bandwagon has gotten far too big. But I do still love it for giving us Kyonko.

@ RJ: The movie followed the “Good End” of the After Story, from what I’ve heard. So I’m guessing Clannad After will do the “True End” route.

I guess I’ll wait for subs for True Tears, I only raw’d last week because they were taking too long, and I don’t have time to blog stuff on Monday. I’m guessing at least one of either Moetaku or w.0.0.f will realize the urgency of it being the last episode and sub it quickly.

@ DreadPirateRyu: Agree’d on FMP, it’s been too long a wait, but uh…yea, read my reply to Gar Logan78 to hear my feelings about Haruhi. I think more Clannad is fine too, though.

@ blissmo: Indeed. She’s such a bundle of energy, not to mention a REALLY fast runner. Did you see her bolt away from Tomoya in the last scene? Wow.

@ solgae: Nagisa reverted to calling him “Okazaki-san” at the end when Mei left though, haha.

As for Kyou, you have to understand, she was truly in love with Tomoya. Her sister was just crushing on him, but she really fell for him. I think lolikit made the point a couple weeks back, during the tennis game when Tomoya walked Nagisa off, everyone watched as they passed by, but Kyou couldn’t even bear to look, she was just frozen in shock and defeat and then broke into tears.

I didn’t mention Akio because it would have been a direct rehash of what I’ve said every other time he’s run out chasing Sanae with bread in his mouth. It’s funny, but only worthy of mention so many times =P Plus, I covered him extensively last week when he made that amazing speech of his.

Now I’m faced with the difficult decision, do I finish the VN over the summer, or wait until KyoAni’s After Story? That’s a long wait…

@ ryvrdrgn14: Oh yea, Fuko, surprised she didn’t make a small cameo in this episode. She’ll probably show up next week, maybe even her REAL self instead of her ghost or whatever.

  13. on 29 Mar 2008 at 2:26 pmWhispered.Hope

I think I’ll be more excited about the After Story if I knew what it was, really xD Why would it be sad? But I’m glad we get to see more of CLANNAD.

And I thought this episode was sweet, as well as funny. LOLed at enough things. Tomoya and Nagisa are too cute together, and until Nagisa brought it up I had forgotten she was older than him, which is odd because Tomoya wouldn’t have met Nagisa otherwise if she didn’t miss her last year.

I think I’d be in heaven if I could wake up to Mei’s “onii-chan~” every morning.

@Shirukii: love you too :-P It’s….the one thing I wanted….before I go! Let’s wear matching boxers and walk the road to school together! xD!!!

  16. on 29 Mar 2008 at 5:57 pmsolgae

@Shirukii: Yes, I am well aware of the fact that she liked him way before any other girls other than Kotomi - Exactly how she fall for him is the reason I have quite limited sympathy for her. This isn’t something that you can get it from the game itself, though - there is another series called “CLANNAD official another story” that focuses on each character’s background, and it does tell the story on how Kyou started to have a crush on Tomoya, which was just plain lame for me.

I don’t hate her at all, though. Kyou is probably the most naive person on love matters when compared to even her own sister. Both of them had a crush on Tomoya for approximately the same length of time (again, you don’t know this until you read the “another story” part), and from what I see, I found Ryou to handle the case better than Kyou does, especially when it involves dealing with other girls hanging around with Tomoya.

Of course, it might just be me who criticize on Kyou more heavily than others, since I think the only good thing Kyou has is her character personality. Especially since Tsundere-type characters counts a lot nowadays.

Why would you get converted to Nagisa-ism when Fuuko is so awesome…..and still asleep?? :DD

  18. on 30 Mar 2008 at 2:15 pmL. Buster

Zomg the first BGM that played after the OP…I never saw that coming. About time it was played too: best BGM in the whole CLANNAD OST, imo.

    @ Shirukii:

Loool, touche! Still if you’re making me use moonrunes instead of the normal alphabet, you are wasting your time. Not. Gon. Na. Hap. Pen.

I’m glad they make up for the bad patches in Clannad. It’s a well prepared dessert for the overburned turkey. I must say i enjoy this episode the most since Fuko’s arc. Looking forward to continue the After Story. Get the tissues ready!
