Hinagiku starts us off, just because I never get a chance to post her otherwise

In an effort to expand the anime blogosphere’s sense of community, the first annual Anime Blog Awards has been put into motion. An awards event created for bloggers, by bloggers, categories range from episodic blogs to editorial blogs, even the more niche circles like those dedicated to figurines. Nominations have started and will end on April 22nd, voting will then commence on April 25th and run to June 1st. Anyone with an anime centric blog created before February 1, 2008 with at least one post during the month of March may nominate, and nominated blogs must have a minimum of five posts.

Interesting idea, I can see it going both ways in terms of community building. While the intent is good, the awards have the inevitable effect of ranking blogs against each other. Every blogger feels that they have something to offer to the community and therefore the right to be recognized, as nominations and awards are handed out and some are left in the dust, who knows what will happen. Let’s hope this doesn’t incite another wave of blogging dorama.

In any case, I’m still working on my nominations, it’s hard for me since a lot of the proposed categories deal with subjects I tend to skim over, at best. As for AniAri’s chances? Slim. The only category that it has a fighting chance in is “Best Episodic Blog” and with that category housing the highest volume of blogs, competition will be fierce. Too bad there’s no “Longest Winded Blog” category.

Next up, animeblogger.net, which hosts AniAri and a multitude of other blogs is in a bit of a financial tough spot. Maestro’s (ab.net’s admin) words will convey the message best.

AnimeBlogger.net has always been supportive of new writers all over the world to establish their blog for free. As we continue to expand and include new bloggers to the anime blogosphere, we have reached a point where advertising dollars are not enough to pay for the hosting services.

Hence, we have decided to appeal for donations to cover the taxes and hosting fees of AnimeBlogger.net. The first goal is to raise US$1600 to cover three months of hosting and the taxes applicable to AnimeBlogger.net. When we have secured that amount, we are looking into adding another server in order to accommodate more writers, which is where the second goal comes in. If we reach our second goal of US$2200, we’ll be able to add another server.

If you are wondering how you can donate to us, there are various ways. First, you can directly donate to the site via Amazon or Paypal from our donations page. Second, you can buy AnimeBlogger.net merchandise. As an incentive to those who donate, everyone who donates more than $5 will be entered to win a prize. Currently we have a sponsor that’s paying for two AnimeBlogger.net shirts for winners. You can also contribute any anime-related items as prizes for the lucky draw.

AnimeBlogger.net needs your help. Everyone is integral to the support of AnimeBlogger.net. Every little bit counts to hit our target, be it $1 or $100. You will make a difference. Thank you and please continue to explore our anime blogging community!

So there you have it, I urge everyone to help Maestro out, every bit helps.

Nominate notdotq for either Funniest or Most Influential. Don’t worry, it’ll actually be a blog again before the nomination process is over.

Also, I think because I’m Owen’s “Kamina” or some shit and he’s the leader of the ABC, I’m the only reason why anime bloggers have community.

    Or something egotistical like that.

I was disappointed there was not a category for “Sexiest Anime Blogger” because I’d be a shoe-in.

And I approve of any and all Hina pics in entries completely unrelated to HnG.

Shirukii said “Hinagiku starts us off, just because I never get a chance to post her otherwise.” What are you talking about dude. You could have post/blog about her birthday 2 weeks ago (March 3rd to be exact), but you didn’t T_T. How can you forget that !! Now I’m not gonna vote for you. LOL. Just kidding dude. I’ll definitely vote for your blog for sure XD

Interesting. Even though I signed-up, I’m gonna rule myself out as a potential candidate for anything though, simply because. ><

PCgamer: Only anime bloggers can vote here, to keep it in the community, so to speak.

I just hope that the awards will at least be able to get out blogs that people don’t know about beforehand, to help expand the community in some way. :P

@ lolikit: Will do. I haven’t thought about the other…what, 8? nominations I have to put up. I don’t even read nine blogs on a regular basis.

@ Calawain: Categories are too restrictive, I would have liked to see some more obscure, almost joke like ones.

    Hina is loev.

@ kenshin514: I actually was going to post on Hina’s birthday, just like I did for Maria’s. But I think I had a midterm or something that day and didn’t have the energy to type when I got home.

@ PCGamer: Nominations are strictly bloggers only, maybe the voting will be open to the public, who knows. I doubt it though, since this seems to be an event held internally between bloggers.

@ Servbot: I think way back when I still read AoMM, now Derailed by Darry, Jason mentioned he had a degree in electrical engineering, so he trumps me on that.

Guilty as charged on the comment thing I guess, I love getting replying to comments.

I bet no one could even wager a guess as to where my alias originates from.

@ Espydon: Aww, I wouldn’t rule yourself out completely. Though, despite what’s being said, I doubt you’re going to see awards handed out to the “little guys” or the rookies, it’s going to be the big name blogs that walk away winners.

@ TheBigN: If the nominee list and such gets out there, I’m sure a few of the lesser known blogs will get an opportunity to spread.

For this time, the newer blogs might be just for exposure but we are intending to have a “Sundance” version of the anime blog awards in the future. That will be slightly more indie. ^^
