Recently I was contacted regarding the new Appleseed movie, Appleseed Ex Machina. The movie premiered in Japan last year and to promote its North American release they’re having a trailer remix contest. Basically you get to piece together your own trailer using video clips from the movie and audio from the OST. The trailer is then submitted to the site where visitors can vote on the best one, the winner of the contest will be flown to San Fransisco to attend WonderCon which takes place in February.

I toyed around with the trailer creation page, it’s very easy to use and you’re given a lot of control in terms of customization. You can choose where each video clip starts and ends and add the music that you think best fits your trailer. It’s too bad I don’t have a creative bone in my body, or I would have entered myself, haha.

The contest ends on February 7th, 2008 and requires that you live in the US to enter.

But wait, there’s more! There’s also a prize pack to be won, pictured above. It includes a hardcover art book that has a bunch of background information on the movie, character designs, CG processes as well as info on the creators and musicians who worked on the film. It also comes with a keychain figure of one of the characters and a Hasymo CD, one of the bands features on the OST.

Art books are awesome, something I’ve always been meaning to start collecting but never had the money to spare to do so. But hey, this one is free! Can’t go wrong with that price. So I’m pleased to offer the chance to win this as a giveaway.

All you have to do to get a chance at winning the prize pack is simply leave a comment on this post, simple as that. On Wednesday a winner will be chosen randomly and I’ll get them in touch with the person in charge of the promotion to sort out the details of getting the prize to you.

As for the Appleseed series itself, I found it to be a great watch. I haven’t seen Ex Machina yet but I did watch the original back in 2005, the story has an interesting post apocalyptic feel to it and the CG fight scenes were awesome. If there any fans of Ghost in the Shell out there, you should definitely give Appleseed a watch, they’re both based on the works of renowned mangaka Masamune Shirow.

As much as I’d like to put those wasted years of high school t.v. production classes to use, that buggy flash interface is raping my connection something fierce.

Is that a static wrap they use for hardware in the first picture?

The action is great in the movie but I can understand the feelings of those who dislike gloss.

That art book looks great and yeah they are pricey T_T

I’ve never really been a fan of Appleseed. I may have watched a bit of the movie sometime on cable, but I’m not really interested in watching it.
