School Days 12 [END]

I don’t even need to say it

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that this may be the single most satisfying episode of anime I have watched in my entire life. Following the Nice Boat disaster last Tuesday we had to wait a little over a week until the episode finally broke through the media frenzy and was aired, each passing day added to the anxiety of not knowing what happened. And when it finally aired and I saw the two people who I thought were most deserving of a slow and painful death getting exactly what they deserved, it was an amazing feeling of relief. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much of the anime community look forward to a single event before, many thanks to AT-X for airing it, our lives are now complete.

Episode Rating: 10/10 || Series Rating: 9.5/10

Picking up from last episode, Makoto and Katsura are walking together in the street when Makoto starts to feel cold so Katsura takes his hands and puts them against her breasts to warm them up. (I’ve always been under the impression that under the armpits is the best way to warm your hands, but hey, I wouldn’t complain) The two of them go to a restaurant together when Makoto gets a call from Sekai who has already cooked dinner for him and is waiting at his apartment. She asks him to come home right away, but Makoto tells her that he can’t make it. At first Sekai thinks that it might be because he doesn’t like her cooking, but when he assures her that that’s not the case, she begins to get suspicious and demands to hear the real reason.

Sekai accuses him of the first thing that comes to mind, that he’s cheating on her again. When he denies it, she tries to use the baby she’s carrying to guilt him into coming home, Makoto tells her that Katsura wouldn’t try to use something like that against him. When Sekai hears him mention Katsura, she starts to realize that he’s with her right now. Frustrated, Makoto yells at her for the situation for the baby and how she announced it to everyone at school, he tells her to go home and hangs up. As soon as he hangs up Makoto gets an e-mail from Sekai in which she apologizes and says that she’s going home.

However, just as she’s getting off the train, Sekai sees Makoto holding Katsura in his arms in a train heading towards his house and rushes to catch them. At Makoto’s place he sits Katsura down and goes to make her a cup of tea, he ends up seeing the mess Sekai made when she threw the dinner she made Makoto on the floor and starts cleaning it up. Suddenly, the doorbell rings but when Makoto goes to answer it, he sees that Katsura got there first, and it’s Sekai at the door. As soon as she sees Katsura, she slaps her and demands that she leave at once. Makoto gets between them and Sekai starts yelling at him, saying that he’s already broken things off with Katsura and tells him he can’t abandon her and his baby. Sekai desperately tries to get Makoto to tell Katsura that he doesn’t have any more feelings for her so that she can believe that Katsura is the one behind this.

Finally, Katsura speaks up, calmly pointing out that it was Sekai that came on to Makoto in the first place, trying to come between them. Sekai denies that and says that they’re truly in love, but Katsura begins to wonder if it’s just Sekai who thinks so. Katsura then changes the subject to Setsuna, telling Sekai how she was in love with Makoto as well. She goes on to tell Sekai that Makoto has always been by her side, waiting, and that she’s not going to hold back anymore, having said that she kisses Makoto right in front of Sekai (with tongue, lol). This causes Sekai to go berserk, screaming out in agony and running away.

As she takes the long walk of shame home, Sekai starts to reminisce about her early high school days, meeting Setsuna and telling her all about Makoto. But her memories soon turn into a horrible hallucination, similar to the one Setsuna had back during the school festival. Using the theme of the untouchable flower once again, a masked character accuses Sekai of being selfish and hypocritical, trying to keep Makoto all to herself. Sekai denies it but the masked character keeps on pressuring her, saying that everything that has happened is all her fault because it was her who chose to sit beside Makoto, who chose to introduce him to Katsura and chose to pry the two of them apart afterwards. The mystery character pulls of her mask and it ends up being Setsuna.

The next day, Sekai’s face lights up when she gets an e-mail from Makoto, but that quickly changes to a look of horror when she reads the e-mail that tells her to get an abortion. She e-mails Makoto back asking to see him at his apartment alone after school. (I’m just guessing based on events that happened later on in the episode here, I couldn’t actually read the texts, someone please correct me if I misunderstood)

That day at lunch, Makoto and Katsura have a nostalgic lunch together on the roof top, just like old times. Makoto takes the opportunity to tell Katsura that he’s truly sorry for everything that he’s put her through, but promises to look only at her from now on. And the two share their final kiss…

That night, at Makoto’s house, Makoto asks Sekai how it went, presumably talking about her abortion, she says nothing. The two sit in silence for a while until Makoto gets up to make some tea, Sekai goes to the kitchen and tells him that she’ll do it. Hearing his cell phone going off in the other room, Makoto goes to check it and finds an e-mail from Sekai. The e-mail contains nothing but a “sorry” and bunch of line skips until the very end, ending with a “good bye”, and with that, Makoto turns around just in time to see Sekai running at him with a knife. She pins him on the ground and stabs him repeatedly as memories of the times he spent with Sekai and Katsura run through his mind. With a bloody knife in her hand and the boy she once loved lying dead on the floor, Sekai realizes what she’s just done and runs away.

Things only get worse when Katsura gets back from happily shopping for ingredients to make Makoto dinner only to find him dead, stabbed to death in his room. She e-mails Sekai and demands to see her. The two meet on the roof of the school, Katsura greets Sekai and asks if she went to the hospital, Sekai says that she didn’t. Katsura then accuses her of lying about being pregnant just so she could keep Makoto to herself, Sekai denies it but Katsura wonders why she didn’t go to the hospital then. She further provokes her by telling her yet again, that she is Makoto’s girlfriend, Sekai breaks down and says that she wanted to be his girlfriend too and wonders how things got to be as bad as they did. Katsura then tells her that Makoto is with them as well, points to the gym bag she brought and tells her to take a look. What’s inside is Makoto’s severed head, seeing it causes Sekai to throw up.

Katsura then backs up and brandishes her hacksaw. Sekai reaches for her knife but Katsura quickly disarms her and slits her jugular vein sending blood spurting all over the place. After she’s dead, Katsura cuts open her stomach to see if she really was pregnant, when she sees no indication that she was, Katsura calmly confirms to herself that Sekai was lying.

Some time after, we see Katsura lying down on her family’s boat, hugging Makoto’s severed head, happy that they are finally together, just the two of them.

Thoughts

Great end or GREATEST end?

lol, so it was a Nice Boat ending after all. I wonder if that’s how it was originally intended to end, or if that last scene was edited to take place on a boat after how much popularity the “Nice Boat” meme gained over the past week or so.

Needless to say, I’m very pleased with the way School Days ended. In terms of how the chain of events went, I couldn’t have asked for more. Two game endings were combined and slightly altered and we got the best of both worlds. We got Sekai killing Makoto, but without his 7 minute redemption speech as he walks off into the sunset, and we got Katsura going berserk on Sekai and slitting her throat open. The added scene where she checked to see if Sekai was really pregnant was a little disturbing, but certainly added to her psychotic mindset, I thought it was a nice addition. So in the end, the girl I picked “won”, albeit she’s probably batshit insane at this point, emphasized by the last scene of her hugging Makoto’s severed head. But uh, hey, she’s alive, and that’s all that counts!

As for Makoto’s death scene, it was pure bliss. Watching him suffer as Sekai relentlessly stabbed him over and over again. I had some lingering pity for him from last episode, when he genuinely seemed to be sorry for everything he did to Katsura, and even this episode, he showed some signs of redemption as he promised to look only at Katsura from now on. But what really pissed me off was when he kissed her right in front of Sekai, almost as if to spite her. Also, he comes to the realization that ignoring Katsura ended up hurting her a lot, but despite that, starts to do the EXACT SAME THING to Sekai, so really, he’s learned nothing. He probably just realized what he’s been missing when Katsura let him cop a feel. So all that taken into consideration, my hate for him was reborn stronger than ever and I cheered as Sekai carved him up.

I am slightly disappointed at the final confrontation between Katsura and Sekai though, I was hoping that Sekai would put up more of a fight than she did. She brought along her kitchen knife and had some practice on Makoto, but was quickly disarmed and taken down by Katsura. I guess Katsura played her cards well though, showing Sekai Makoto’s head to throw her off, well played.

As for the violence scenes themselves, they were fairly well done. Makoto’s facial expressions as Sekai cut him up were priceless, and Sekai’s face as she got her throat sliced accompanied by Katsura dead stare did justice to the game (cept we didn’t get to see Katsura maniacal laugh). The pitch black blood took away from the scenes a bit, but all in all the effect remained the same, and I expect they’ll return that to normal when the DVD version hits. I hope they show the unedited version in the DVD, supposedly it was even gorier, Makoto’s scene especially, having a lot more stabbing rather than the flashbacks that were done in the broadcast.

School Days was a great watch, never before have I hated an anime character with such passion and never before have I used the phrase “die in a fire” so many times. At times the plot was a messed up and nonsensical, and a lot of things were thrown in without explanation, probably just to anger the viewers (Hikari, anyone?) but in the end, justice was served. With so many harems out there that follow the standard templates of going through segments of each girl’s arc and then either have the protagonist pick one or leave the ending opening, School Days was a much needed breath of fresh air into the harem genre. It followed many of the cliches yet completely shattered harem conventions. The anime felt a little convoluted, having tried to incorporate so many of the h-game’s arc into one coherent plot line, but it all worked out in the end.

School Days has a wide appeal, from those who love the generic harem genre, to those who absolutely abhor it, and those who just love to see some mindless violence, I’d recommend it to just about everyone. Under the unifying theme of hating Makoto; viewers, bloggers and anonymous everywhere have banded together these past 13 weeks and prayed for Makoto to get his comeuppance. If you haven’t joined in on the hate already, I have no hesitation in recommending you get to watching.

It was fun blogging School Days and I’ll miss these weekly sessions of speculation and Makoto hating, but all good things must come to an end, and what a GOOD END it was.

On that note, School Days was the very first anime that I watched COMPLETELY raw, as in, not even going back to download subs and rewatching (mostly because I couldn’t handle watching the same episode more than once). So my question is, how did I do? I know I made a few slip ups here and there (many of them because of text messages that I couldn’t read -_-) but all in all, were my summaries accurate enough to follow?

But in any case, thanks for reading! Everyone’s continued support even when my posts were reduced to little more than vitriolic Makoto rants was what kept me going. I hope you all stick around for the fall season, which is quite a contrast to summer, overflowing with moeblob titles like CLANNAD, Da Capo and Kojika. From die in a fire to so moe I’m gonna die, as it were.

Teresa ;_;

Am I the first to post?

OH HELL YEAH! That was best ending ever. Nice Boat indeed. I literally screamed “9999 damage!” at that death scene. XD

It was disturbing at the same time unexpected that Kotonoha opened Sekai’s abdomen to confirm if she’s pregnant or not. She’s way past her sanity.

Nevertheless, it’s now over. Now then, off to CLANNAD!

One correction: The message Sekai received was from Makoto’s cell though it’s likely that she realized it was from Katsura.

As for Makoto, his text message to Sekai about getting an abortion likely sealed his fate, though it is possible that Sekai only decided to kill him after seeing all the food she made for him in the trash.

For the most part I felt bad for Sekai here with all that Makoto did to her in this episode. That being said, I’m now not sure if she really was pregnant considering that she decided to go to school at night and brought her knife along.

And unless Katsura’s found, she’ll likely die of starvation in the middle of the sea :(

One reason I’ll be looking forward to the OVA is because that’ll most likely have a good ending for her.

Two things I was disappointed in: I really wanted to hear Katsura’s line she gave before killing Sekai in the game. Also, the reactions given by the other students at the end didn’t feel right – that they would act so happy and cheerful after what took place seems real off.

  3. on 27 Sep 2007 at 7:38 pmGin

Another thing: The confrontation between Katsura and Sekai was very similar to the one between Sekai and Makoto. In both instances the killer caught her victim off-guard (I’m also guessing that Sekai didn’t expect Katsura to be able to disarm her so easily).

    FTW!
    :3 Adios Makoto and Sekai.

    *huggles Katsura-chan*
I have an additional favorite character. ^-^

Boy, I’d never see THAT ending coming, not in a million years. Yes, we all got our mutual bloodlust sated, but the disembowelment and the creepily idyllic scene at the end with just Katsura and the head was just. . . I’m sure there’s a German word out there to describe how it competely surpassed my goriest (yet pausible) expectations. Hell, I’d even pay the $100.00 backdoor entry fee just to see that special screening and not feel cheated.

Here’s to hoping for some alternate ending OVAs.

    >>that they would act so happy and cheerful after what took place seems real off.

Of course the students would be happy and cheerful. It’s fucking Makoto. Fucking dead.

For some reason, when I found out that he was dead from Kuro’s blog, I was overjoyed. Just reading Shirukii’s vitriolic rants about Makoto made me emotionally vested in his demise, it would seem.

    Ah well.

It’s been a fun ride, O show that I did not watch.

    Hah.
    Hah.
    Hah.

    VICTORY!

I am so SO glad Sekai got the bad end this time. There are way too many situations where she got the better outcome.
So, she lied about being pregnant plus, she’s way desperate to be using that to keep Makato.
She’s an utter hypocrite. Hurrah! She now knows how it feels to get cheated on, but you know; Katsura didn’t exactly go insane AND murderous. Well, not completely. Plus, Katsura never went crazy-ass angry at any of them.
    *Happy dance*!
So, to that person who kept going ” BENZAI SEKAI”; I am now happy to say that no. She’s dead, and Makato doesn’t love her!

    Ahem, anyways.

I didn’t really care that much about Makato, if he lived, I wouldn’t be all that angry.
Nice touch on the Sestuna lecture though, what she said was completely true. Sekai brought this down on herself, and she has to suffer the consequences.
    Good series!

I wonder what will happen to Katsura though…
    Oh wells :D!

The people who were deeply dissapointed with Claymore’s ending have now a rightful excuse to go watch School Day’s ending. They’ll feel relieved once watching this blood-fest conclusion.

  9. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:15 pmWhispered.Hope

I have never in my life seen School Days. I thought it was a total shoujo anime.

But this ending is worth seeing just this episode. I’ve been hearing all sorts of things about Makato, and apparently he deserves this end. I would watch this episode just to see people die xDD

  10. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:16 pmHinano

Clannad isnt gonna make you go moe, clannad is gonna make you cry. So my brotha, let us cry into the fall season together!

  11. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:17 pmMori-Masaki

I…for one don’t like this kind of ending.
It’s true that Makoto is one of the biggest asshole of all anime protagonist ever. But his death doesn’t make any situation any better.
And WTF with all blood and gore here!? I don’t want another one of fucking Higurashi-ish…That’s just plain sick.

Just finished watch this episode last night and I just though I’d got traumatized for weeks. = =

  12. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:26 pmYaoi-kun

I was sad for Katsura-san. I love her so much I want to draw her! yay! I was really glad that Sekai died.

So…in the end did Makato pick Katusra? After the credits he starts talking about katsura and how he was happy watching her…or was it repeting the first episode? I dont know!

    WHO DID HE CHOOSE!??

  13. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:29 pmOwen S

Omg you saw the Teresa ;_; similarities too. Soulmate.

  14. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:32 pmShirukii

@ SHiN_aKuMa: Katsura lost her sanity a couple episodes back, she only regained it for about 10 minutes of screen time. One of the best yanderes in recent anime.

@ Gin: I’d be pretty happy if Makoto were dead, especially the girls, since he was such an ass to them.

Just out of curiosity, what was Katsura final line before going psycho on Sekai in the game?

Also, Katsura probably knows how to drive her nice boat, she’ll be fine. If things get really bad, she can always eat Makoto’s head o.o

@ Kari: Yay for Katsura fans.

@ ItAintEazy: We’ll see the unedited version of School Days somewhere, there is nothing in this world that will not eventually make it onto the internet. NOTHING!

@ lolikit: I’m just that good at writing :3 You should have watched it ongoing though, the satisfaction of knowing he died would have been made just that much sweeter.

@ Kaelyn: After thinking about it some more, Sekai may not have been lying about being pregnant, she might have just not been far along enough to make out a fetus. Or Katsura was just deluding herself into thinking that there was nothing there just to justify her actions some more.

Just a possibility to consider. But hey, it doesn’t matter, because she’s dead =D

@ Guido: Certainly worked for me, although I wasn’t disappointed with Claymore to that extent.

@ Hopey: Quite far from shoujo haha, seinen perhaps? I’m not well versed in the classifications.

You should watch the series in its entirety, though, Makoto may cause you to put a hole through your monitor.

@ Hinano: Typical Key…bah. Sadder than Kanon?

@ Mori-Masaki: >> But his death doesn’t make any situation any better.

Sure it did. It rid the world of Makoto, that’s worth it enough. The whole series was just a huge build up to Makoto’s death, it couldn’t have ended any other way. True it was Higurashi-esque with the gore and such, but it wouldn’t have been satisfying had it not been.

@ Yaoi-kun: Makoto chose Katsura in the end, but it doesn’t really matter since uh…you know, he’s dead.

@ Owen S: Haha, and I thought I was the only one who would ever think that, awesome. Btw, I can’t post on the ABC for some reason D=

  15. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:44 pmAS

It finally happened and with such a nice ending ;p. Well, I guess I’ll get this one episode after dropping the anime just to enjoy watching Makoto die…is it wrong? NO WAY LOL.

  16. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:45 pmKaelyn

But Makato *did* put a hand on Sekai’s abdomen/ whisper her name when she was stabbing him. Who knows?
I’m just glad that Sekai finally gets the feeling of getting cheated on badly.

I didn’t really like the gore either, it was a little too much.

  17. on 27 Sep 2007 at 8:52 pmBOOOO

Hm….Kotonoha said the abortion doctor was good. Maybe she got an abortion too because of Taisuke.

    ZING~

Woo! Kotonoha fans unite for this day full of joy! I’ve got a head in a bag, a head in a bag~

I think you did great with the raw blogging. That’s the first step into taking a serious course of Learning Japanese the Otaku Way! Well, if you’re into that. Who would find learning Japanese fun though? I mean who~?

    PS: nice boat ^.

  20. on 27 Sep 2007 at 9:20 pmlolikit

So I’m watching SD 12 right now because the bloodiness is sexual (or it would be, if it were bloody instead of tar-y) and I have to say, Sekai is awesome. I love how her voice is violent and angry and shit. It’s awesome.

  21. on 27 Sep 2007 at 9:31 pmMori-Masaki

Shirukii >>> Yeah I know that there might there more than a million “Makoto must die!” viewers around the world.

In the past Makoto used to be a nice (and a bit dense) guy as states in Setsuna’s flashback scene in Episode 8…At least that’s why he attract so many girls in the first place.
But then all the girls is too eager to throwing themselves upon him. That’s begin to erodinng away his sense of responsibility.Just like when you get something so easily. You don’t think that’s much of worth on it. Effectively turning him to one of the worst guy ever in anime history.

Personally : I hold neither glad nor grief about Makoto’s death. It’s really NOT entirely his fault to end this way. But his action is far beyond forgivable and that’s what I would expect in the first place.

But the thing I CANT’T stand : Kotonoha…That’s just plain wrong. She severed Makoto’s head from his dead body? SPLIT SEKAI OPEN AND SEARCH FOR THE BABY INSIDE OF HER WOMB!? This is just…just too much (Upon watching this scene I just thrown up)

My god…This ending make me couldn’t sleep last night = =

P.S. Sorry that I’m not very well versed in English :p

  22. on 27 Sep 2007 at 9:45 pmGin

    > @ Gin: I’d be pretty happy if Makoto were dead, especially the girls, since he was such an ass to them.

I was just hoping that they would be shown having some guilt over what happened, especially Otome and her friends along with Taisuke. But instead they’re moving on as if they didn’t play a major role in what transpired.

    > Just out of curiosity, what was Katsura final line before going psycho on Sekai in the game?

Not quite sure. I think she told Sekai to die. It was just the way that she said it that made it sound great ^^

  23. on 27 Sep 2007 at 9:48 pmYaoi-kun

Not at all. The gory ending was the best part. Crazy Katsura is my favorite. -huggs her- But I was still hoping there will be a semi-Hsean between Katsura and Makoto, I probably would have felt more complete.

Now I have to find some new anime.

  24. on 27 Sep 2007 at 9:55 pmKanon_fan82

    WOW……just wow!

That was THE greatest ending to an anime series I have ever seen :)

Although I have toask: Makoto makes out with Kotonoha right in front of the girl he (may have) knocked up

WHO DOES THAT????? I mean seriously!………..Has anyone met a human being that heartless?

Totally rekindled the hate and made the ending oh-so-satisfying!

    Series rating: 10/10 for sure!

It’s kind of disturbing in and of itself that we are celebrating the brutal murder of a cartoon character, but that’s for the sociologists and pop-culture critics to sort out later ;)

    MAKOTO IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

    *Insert Happy Dance here** :)

@ Kaylen: Yes, I was cheering for Sekai……but in the end…….I got pissed off with her (and all of the other girls) for not seeing what a douchebag Makoto really was and leaving him MUCH sooner!……

She’s still the best character in the show though……..AND she was the one who had the hutzpah to actually kill Makoto………BANZAI SEKAI!! :)

@ Shirukii: I couldn’t agree with you more my friend, Makoto does have the uncanny ability to make you want to destroy computer monitors lol….

  25. on 27 Sep 2007 at 10:03 pmServbot

People are going nuts about the finale.

I am left wondering whether Sekai did have a baby or not since an embryo takes about 3 months to form doesnt it? She said she lost her period and did have morning sickness too…

Was it just delusional Katsura that chose to believe what she wanted to believe?

Sekai hurt her left hand so maybe that was why she was easily disarmed, but yeah, wished it was more of a fight…like mashing the attack button.

In the end Katsura’s yacht was a nice boat!

  26. on 27 Sep 2007 at 10:23 pmEE

lol, Kotonoha has uber sword skills with the way she disarmed sekai, and a nice boat too

  27. on 27 Sep 2007 at 10:53 pmandynai

wtf?! the poor lad already got what he deserved and now you fface wants to object? if what the gals put him through wasn’t stressful enough, then i say open you damn eyes you awipe. sodding stfaces.

and i think if you really wanted to see him get nail you should try watching some h(GURO)manga.
or maybe ya dudes just want him to get a big dildo rammed up his butthole for your own yaoi fantasies.

    >to bad we did not get to see Makoto bed Kotonoha but it’s works for me, don’t want a bich who has been vitiated to be sleeping wiht him. nah, j/k. but it was enjoyable seeing Makoto pluck all those nice cherries. it was sad but fun.

  28. on 27 Sep 2007 at 11:02 pmShirukii

@ AS: Yea, if nothing else, at least watch the final episode, it’s worth it even as a stand alone.

@ Kaelyn: The gore was toned down though, it’ll probably be even gorier in the DVD. Agreed on Sekai though, she got what she deserved, a complete reversal of roles.

    @ BOOOO: lol, I’d laugh if that were the case, then cry ;_;

    @ Nightingale: Damn boats…

@ Totali: Well, I do have the option of taking a language course to fill my free elective =D

@ lolikit: I prefer Katsura, but Sekai had her moments too. She was just far too hypocritical for me to sympathize with, was awesome to see her go psycho on Makoto though, that’s for sure.

@ Mori-Masaki: >> Kotonoha…That’s just plain wrong. She severed Makoto’s head from his dead body? SPLIT SEKAI OPEN AND SEARCH FOR THE BABY INSIDE OF HER WOMB!? This is just…just too much (Upon watching this scene I just thrown up)

While I agree that it was a little extreme, consider what she went through. She fell in love with Makoto only to have him cheat on her with her best friend, four girls who did nothing but bully her and some random chick. She was lost in depression and was mentally unstable for the better part of the series. She FINALLY snaps out of it and is reunited with her love, only to find him dead a day after. That’s harsh, give the girl a break =(

And your English is fine, I’ve seen worse haha.

@ Gin: True enough, but consider that they probably don’t want to think that they should feel any guilt. Selfish, yes, but from their point, better than faulting themselves for his death.

@ Yaoi-kun: If I didn’t have such a hate for Makoto, I would probably pick Katsura as the best pair for him. But he needed to die more than that, so tough luck for him, lol.

@ Kanon_fan82: Anime fans are strange beings indeed.

He does incite much rage, huh? But don’t hurt your computer ;_; how’s the new build anyways?

@ Servbot: I’m thinking that she might have really been pregnant. At such an early stage, I doubt Katsura would be able to identify anything that looked remotely like a fetus, especially with her rather unscientific dissection method.

I wish my family was rich enough to buy me my own personal nice boat =\

@ EE: She didn’t even use her hacksaw to disarm her though, she just kinda grabbed her arm, and Sekai dropped her knife out of surprise. Sekai’s swordplay is weaksauce.

@ andynai: Wait, what? Are you saying that MAKOTO was the one being put under stress after sleeping around with everyone? He was clearly enjoying his situation until it came back and karma smacked him in the face. His death WAS what he deserved, in fact some would go as far to say that that wasn’t enough suffering (I personally think death by stabbing is good enough).

Thanks for your postings on School Days. Your School Days entries are the ones that brought me to your blog first, and I enjoyed very much your humour and insights.

Since you’ll be blogging Clannad, I will definitely continue to stick around.

Agreement with bakaneko, I’ve been following your blog since the middle of School Days and am enjoying it. Looking forward to your thoughts on yao…er, CLANNAD. :D

I can’t remember the last time two series I’ve been following ended in ultimate satisfaction (Lucky Star being the other).

lol, i just liked the way she disarmed sekai and had the hacksaw to her neck at the same time.

    as usual, nice write up!
    props to you

Ohh what a conclusion, the insert song while Makoto was stabbed helped my pure bliss at one of my fav anime moments in history. Maybe due to this hype and controversy this anime will go down in history. the “nice boat” anime.

Also interesting point in the middle of the ep. Setsuna (yay I love her so much glad she made an appearance) had already loved Makoto far before other two, Sekai knew this and stole Makoto from her, that really justified Sekai’s death for me.

But the sheer hype that had been building up to this ep has been amazing thank you so much AT-X for saving us.

  34. on 28 Sep 2007 at 6:26 amlolikit

I’d only seen like 2 minutes of the episode at that point. Katsura had yet to open her mouth and she just seemed a bit like a whore to me (all she’d done was grope herself with Makoto’s hands). Sekai on the other hand was acting like disgruntled wife yelling about how “THE ONIONS ARE ON THE TABLE COME HOME.”

And no, I did not sleep well last night.

P.S.: by what stretch of the imagination did Katsura “regain her sanity?” She’s fucking off her rocker.

  35. on 28 Sep 2007 at 9:26 amsteady

The ending was very intense. I was well aware of the fact that the game was infamous for its bad endings, however, i didn’t expect the producers and the director of the anime would air such episode. I guess i was shocked because first 11 episodes built large amount of tension but not enough to show gruesome deaths of the main characters, namely when makoto was butchered by sekai to the point of realism.

  36. on 28 Sep 2007 at 11:28 amBrikHaus

The ended with Nice Boat! That is perfect :)

  37. on 28 Sep 2007 at 11:29 amSiva

I just decided to watch ep12 and all i can say this is the best of the best bad ending i had ever seen. I have never though that the conclusion of the School Days was a really great well done.

We all know that Makoto is going to die at the end or i could say 99.99% of ppl who r watching School Days pray for it. Even i myself pray for a good ending for School Days at the beginning but after ep 4 i only pray for Makoto to die and Katsura happy at the end and now my wish is already grant.

The pain that everyone bear long time ago now can be heal with this great episode. I wish everyone have a nice day after watching this episode.

The only thing i disappoint about this ep is that Makoto should have died a few days ago and why they let him live for a few more days?

  38. on 28 Sep 2007 at 12:07 pmWii

Yeah im still wondering if the whole sekai with the baby is really true.

  39. on 28 Sep 2007 at 1:25 pmK

If you think that killing people over something so trivial as love is a justice then you all are fouls,if you where the victim of such a crime, would you be smiling ?
Yes people just make mistakes, we all do, but killing is not the answer…and wishing for someone to just die…is as killing him yourself…
It is true that this life is not so pure, but what if someone just decides to kill you just because he does not like you ?, what do you say in the end…
I think that this anime, tries to cover the facts of reality, killing is not the answer, and you all know that.

  40. on 28 Sep 2007 at 2:36 pmSiva

@K: Do u know u forgot something? This is not reality it is a drama.
There is not perfect in this world, whichever ending the director chose good or bad ending, there r still ppl who will have problems with it. Am i right?

And yes, in reality killing is not the answer, but i have heard and believed that there are some questions can not be answered and there are some answers that do not have it own questions.

I think Sekai couldn’t find her answer and she just reach to the point where she think if something i love but can not have it then nobody else can have it.

“I think that this anime, tries to cover the facts of reality, killing is not the answer, and you all know that.”
It is not like they try to cover the fact of reality, and I think they try to show the fact of some reality.

  41. on 28 Sep 2007 at 3:29 pmTeeif

hmmm… Sekai’s killing scene jumped from disarmanent straight to katsura’s hacksaw being in her throat. Where’s the swing? Hyprocritical whores should be able to see their death comming at them! Eeee… roll on the the DVD edition!!!

Although I didn’t believe Katsura at first, I liked the doubts stroked about Sekai’s sincerity about her pregnancy. I am somewhat sympathetic yet satisfied with Sekai dying. I feel its a bit sorry for her since she IS carrying and she deserves some credit for killing Motoko. “WELL DONE LASS, now go away and be a good mother!”
But no… she just has to respond to that text message. Who did you think it was? A nice Motoko zombie?

As an anime series, School Days only really let down by the plot holes left by character’s responses and lack of animation early on in the series. That’s a shame. It gets A+ though, for the reoccuring themes and the use of modern devices in a love story. In particular – the use of Mobile Phones and Trains were good plot drivers and memorable settings. I liked the occasions when time would slow down as important characters pass each other on the train line. At the end, Sekai’s use of a text saying ’saiyonara’ was great! :-D It finished off the main character in a stylish fashion fitting for a emotional series.

I watched it raw and ended up going to bed before you could post your entry, but huzzah! It is here!

I want the uncensored version. Need more Makoto-stabbing.

  43. on 28 Sep 2007 at 3:56 pmShirukii

@ bakaneko: Thanks for the compliments =D And yes, I will most likely be blogging Clannad, so look forward to that.

@ Greggo: I see someone really enjoyed that full length Motteke Seifuku lol, I’ll admit it was quite well done. Lucky Star as a whole, though, was often hit or miss with its humor.

@ EE: She was also blazingly fast, she closed the distance between them before Sekai even had a chance to properly draw.

    @ nice: Thanks!

@ Rau: It was surprising to find out that Setsuna had feelings for Makoto before anyone else, except Otome. Lolis are superior? I suppose.

@ lolikit: Katsura was RELATIVELY sane during the last episode. Compared to the two that preceded the finale, where she was pretty much talking to herself the whole time.

@ steady: It was a long time coming. The entire series was a lead up to the carnage of the last episode, it was quite well done.

    @ BrikHaus: Superb naval vessel.

@ Siva: Blame the girl who axed her dad for the delay =( But better late than never.

@ Wii: I’m beginning to side with the people who think she wasn’t lying. See previous comments to see why I think so.

@ K: We know it’s not reality, it’s anime. We’re not so cold hearted that we’d wish something like this upon someone in real life. Anime offers an escape from reality. Just as you rarely feel any remorse when the bad guy in a movie dies, we’re able to suspend reality and enjoy the bloodshed.

Aaand…that’s exactly what Siva ended up saying, bah, lol.

@ Teeif: >> In particular – the use of Mobile Phones and Trains were good plot drivers and memorable settings.

Agreed. Although! Two major problems I had with these. Regarding mobile phones and the recurring theme of e-mails causing misunderstandings and driving plot elements, made it so hard to raw ;_; And as for the trains, I don’t know about you, but my eyesight is nowhere near fast enough to make such finite distinctions as trains whiz by. But meh, small detail.

@ TheChichiSlaughterHouse: Uncensored should be released on DVD, I can’t wait.

  44. on 28 Sep 2007 at 4:13 pmK

So dont u feel nothing for Sekai,Matoko,Kotonoha , i for one feel pity and sorrow…it’s is just too sad, even for makoto, sekai, kotonoha to end like that, maybe that is the thing that makes it better as an anime.

  45. on 28 Sep 2007 at 4:30 pmSiva

@K: It is not like we feel nothing for Sekai, Matoko and Kotonoha as u can check back in the first few ep of School Days that have post here, there r ppl who wish for a good ending(that include me) for School Days despite we know it is a Triangle-love. Because of School Days already reached the point where it cant turn back anymore, so most ppl want a great bad-ending instead of a screwup happy-ending.

And your opinion is not completely wrong here, ppl have their own way of thinking.

The system works really well. :)…some minor issues with the hardware…..the top fan on the case gave me a bit of trouble (ie. the cable kept disconnecting and the fan wouldn’t spin)

and I’ll never understand why monitors still use the pin system instead of USB…..its a pain in the ass to get the pin locks to hold/turn all the way…at least with my nubby fingers lol………

but it’s all fixed now :)…..and I love it!!!!!

    HELL YEA NICE FUCKING BOAT!!!

*sigh* finally i can continue my life knowing that the right people died, i have never gotten that excited in an anime before. I was litterally jumping around in my chair cheering, while my bf only shook his head behind me!! Ohhh how wonderful it was to see Makoto die like the dog he was, awww he was crying. HA to bad you ass u got what you deserved, sekai well while you did bring it on yourself i was kinda sad to see you die. I was really kinda hoping Katsura was going to hurl herself over the balcony. Ehhh i could never get passed her indecisivness to really like her. Umm but the whole gutting of sekai was kinda disturbing, katsura deffinatly is batshit crazy!! YAy im going to have a good stiff drink and revel in i got what i wanted out of this anime.
The whore and the asshole are dead and the crazy girl lives happily ever after with her bf’s severd head..how romantic!! >.

  48. on 28 Sep 2007 at 9:48 pmClaymoreClare

    Kick Ass Ending,

I would of like to have Kotonoha jump off the building though and kill herself, and matokos head could roll out of her hands once she landed.

  49. on 28 Sep 2007 at 10:57 pmKZ

Hey Sekai started this whole mess by ’supporting’ Makoto and Kotonoha. If she has something on her mind… speak it, faking ur actions can be FATAL!!

She started this whole mess by seducing Makoto, having said that Makoto thinks with his dick. I can understand why the director(s) would make the two die, Kotonoha goes nuts becuz she never had to experience losing love before. Lose and lose big may prove to be too much to endure for ones like Kotonoha.

I had to remind my gf that IT IS AN ANIMATION (god damn it… it wasn’t pretty and it was hard)
Parallel from reality (I prefer to live in denial after seeing this final episode)

  50. on 29 Sep 2007 at 9:05 amUnsolved mysteries and loose ends...

    1) What happened to Sekai’s body?

    2) Did Makoto and Kotonoha fuck after deep kissing (in front of Sekai)? Make up for lost times?

    3) How far in was Sekai pregnant? How big was the fetus? Or was she hallucinating? Did she do a pregnancy test? Missing periods may be due to other causes too….

    4) ‘Life goes on’ for the other characters at the end? Weren’t they least shaken by the deaths of 2 (3?) of their classmates?

    5) Did Setsuna do it with Makoto before leaving for France?

  51. on 29 Sep 2007 at 1:05 pmKatsura fan

Poor Katsura… I agree she went through alot. She was betrayed by her close friend, bullied by 4 other girls, humiliated and lied to by Setsuna (Sekai’s best friend) in front of her true love Makoto. On top of that she was all alone with no one to help her through that period. Of course she would be mentally unstable after all that. Just when she is brought back to normal, Sekai put Katsura over the edge with Makoto’s death.

Sekai is a complete hypocrit, she did whatever it took to get Makoto. Even though she knew her best friend, Setsuna, loved Makoto first she still persued him. She tried to get close to Makoto by sitting next to him in class and introducing Katsura to him. She knew Katsura was with Makoto but she went with her selfish desires and kissed Makoto.

Kiss leads to sex then to bed buddies.

Still Makoto continues dating Katsura and sleeps with Sekai in secret. And she tries to stay on everyone’s goodside… she’s freakin coward and hypocrit… she fakes her prenancy and announces it to everyone just to gain everyone’s sympathy and have Makoto to herself.

In a way Sekai is another version of Makoto.

Makoto persued every wrong course of action just to satisfy his selfish desires. Tries to stay on everyones goodside like a cowardous hypocrit. I don’t think he learned anything in this series except to how to be a dickhead. Pun intended.

At least Makoto was innocent and naive at the start of the anime… he didn’t know a thing about approaching girls or dating. For the most part, Sekai’s actions twisted Makoto into a sex craving asshole. If she didn’t kiss Makoto at the beginning then he and Katsura might have be still alive dating like a happy couple. The two-faced Sekai was a decieved us into thinking she was the right girl for Makoto.

In my opinion, Katsura was the best of the three main characters and Sekai is worse than Makoto.

  52. on 29 Sep 2007 at 2:01 pmgunrunforfun

For those interested, Katsura’s last words before killing Sekai were, “Let’s see if you were lying [about being pregnant].”

  53. on 29 Sep 2007 at 3:02 pmShirukii

@ K: The only one I felt really sorry for was Katsura, Sekai and Makoto got what they deserved, in my opinion.

@ Siva: More like a decagon than a triangle XD

@ Kanon_fan82: USB doesn’t have a high enough bandwidth to relay the information needed back and forth between the GPU and monitor.

@ kay kay: I lol’d picturing your boyfriend facepalming in the background as you cheered on the deaths. I usually try to avoid watching anime around other people, haha.

@ ClaymoreClare: Noooo, Katsura is the only one who deserved to live, she was pure! (well, relatively speaking)

@ KZ: True things originated with Sekai, if she hadn’t kissed Makoto that day at the train station, he would have had no idea that he had a free ticket with her. Oh well, wouldn’t have been much of an anime had that not happened.

@ Unsolved mysteries and loose ends:

    1. Katsura probably dumped it in the ocean or something.
    2. No, they didn’t have time. Sekai was tailing them, remember?
    3. Huge debate about this, some think that Sekai’s pregnancy was real, some think faked. I personally think it was real, she would have been a couple weeks in. But no, she did not do a pregnancy test, at least not to our knowledge.
    4. Apparently not, lol. Heartless bastards. But then again, it’s Makoto we’re talking about.
    5. Yes.

@ KatsuraFan: Pretty much summed up exactly how I felt about the characters and the series in general. Good job =)

@ gunrunforfun: I know that’s what she said in the last episode, I was wondering about her last words in the game version of the ending. The one where she slices open Sekai’s throat right in front of Makoto and laughs as she bleeds to death.

  54. on 29 Sep 2007 at 4:21 pmNightingale

    @ Shirukii
For Katsura’s last word, well from what I heard from, is quite simple:
“Please die.” *pull saw-> blood burst -> lunatic laughter -> grand finale -> applause*

  55. on 29 Sep 2007 at 5:02 pmItAintEazy

@Shirukii: Yeah, I watched that scene about a dozen times, and the best I can think of is that it’s just some Keigo way of saying “just die.” I could be wrong, I’m so far from being a Japanese expert I shouldn’t even bother, so forget I even said anything :^) Of course, if you are talking about what Katsura was saying WHILE she was laughing, then I got nothing :^(

@Katsura fan: Hmm, that does pose an interesting question, what WOULD have happened if Sekai chose not to insert herself between Makoto and Katsura’s relationship? Well, Makoto, being the gash hound that he is, will pressure Katsura into having sex with him, and Katsura, being the spineless wonder that she is, will eventually comply after putting up with weeks of discomfort. After he’s got what he wanted, Makoto will get bored and move on to any other girl that shows interests. That’s the type of asshole that he is.

  56. on 29 Sep 2007 at 7:51 pmKaelyn

    @ItAintEazy

You really think so? It seems to me that he really did realize what he did wrong. Plus, he didn’t screw her when he had many chances.
I would like to believe that he learned his lesson. He seemed so sincere, inner thoughts, and spoken words.

    I can’t stop re-watching the last episode! It’s so…haunting.
I actually do wish that Makato hadn’t died.

What if Sekai suicided? Then Makato and Katsura gets married, and name their daughter Sekai D:

    Sigh..

  57. on 29 Sep 2007 at 9:44 pmKatsura fan

@ ItAintEazy: Ya Katsura might’ve broken up with Makoto. Knowing Makoto’s personality he would try to end things on good terms. Or they might’ve stayed together and worked it out.

Katsura had a fear of breast touching due to negative experiences in junior high. Boys would feel her up because she had big chest. At the end of the series, she placed Makoto’s hand over her chest and was ok with it. That might’ve been a sign of things to come if Sekai didn’t meddle.

  58. on 29 Sep 2007 at 9:53 pmKatsura fan

@ Kaelyn: That might be one of the 20 possible endings. Wish I had the game to pursue that ending ^_^

  59. on 29 Sep 2007 at 10:04 pmSiva

@Shirukii: “More like a decagon than a triangle XD” -_-!
“I usually try to avoid watching anime around other people, haha.” I guess we all do that.
    “3.” thing still unclear.
“5. Yes.” Wow! you actually expected that much?

@Kaelyn: i actually think Makato and Katsura should name their daugther Kaelyn.

Do you actually believe that Makoto learned his lesson? When he knew that he already made Sekai pregnant and he still abandon her, what kind of lesson he has learn here?

  60. on 30 Sep 2007 at 8:03 amItAintEazy

. . . and the way Makoto had to tongue wrestle Katsura in front of Sekai like that after blaming her for getting preggers, then on top of all that send that callous electronic message for her to discard her unborn child, thereby putting her over the edge, means that even though he might hate himself for being an asshole, he has fully embraced that role.

And what if Sekai committed suicide? Well, the best case scenario is that Makoto and Katsura will remain in a heavily one-sided relationship, with Katsura as the robotic housewife willing to let her husband get away with virtually anything, with the unthinkable possibility that this world will have little Makotos running around

    *shudder*

  61. on 30 Sep 2007 at 9:17 ammi

I noticed as makoto is dying + sekai finally coming back to her senses, makoto muttered, “Thank goodness”… I wonder what that is about. He ‘appears’ to be kind of holding sekai’s stomach area (it wasn’t clear, I can be wrong) I wonder if he knows he’s dying, but at least his progeny will live on or something XD

  62. on 30 Sep 2007 at 12:53 pmShip

    I have a question,
Sekai asked to Setsuna to change place with her to be with Makoto but when she fell in love? At the ceremony?

  63. on 30 Sep 2007 at 2:15 pmTelliamed

    @mi> makoto muttered, “Thank goodness”…

It’s hard to tell if he says “soka.” (”Thank Goodness”) or “seka…” (her name).
It looked to me, though, that he was trying to feel her up. Typical Makoto.

Moral of the story: Rich people can get away with murder.

  64. on 30 Sep 2007 at 10:02 pmMoorina

Katsura was very merciful towards Sekai, cutting her jugular vein. Quick and painless for Sekai.

  65. on 30 Sep 2007 at 10:13 pmkay kay

well..sekai did have morning sickness. I really do think she was pregnate, even though katsura did cut her open, the baby wouldnt have even looked like anything a cluster of cells only if she was a cpl weeks along…awww now i feel bad to the innocent baby who had whore’s for parents :(..but then again maybe it was for the best??…ewwww no thats not right. But yeah sekai was pregnate, it wouls be kinda cool if they did a follow up episode to show everyones reactions to the murder’s and what happend to katsura after her and makoto’s head sailed into the sunset, but i dont think that will happen. I dont know what the “thank goodness” was about as makoto was in his death throws though, i find it hard to believe he was happy to have a baby as its mother stabbed him to death :S but i guess there are a lot of unanswered questions to this anime..sheesh now i have to find something else to watch. but what could ever be as entertaining as School Days??!!

  66. on 01 Oct 2007 at 4:46 amCres

Kotonoha did take kendo lesson if u play Summer Days. She can split a leaf falling in half. So yeah, Sekai is no match for her. In the game her cut was so clean that it took 5s for the blood to come out.

  69. on 10 Oct 2007 at 10:06 pmVieira

Just needed to drop a line here cause there are little things needed to be said.

The text message just said for her to go see a doctor that kotonoha knows(later confirmed by makoto to be a “specialist” and not for an abortion)
Anyone feeling major pity for makoto? Me wanting him dead during the anime as well i felt he shouldnt have been ganked so hardcore.
Sekai over reacted and her suituation was no ones fault but her own.

Final thought: i used to think kotonoha was my favourite character but ive deemed they all suck as makoto’s a douche sekai’s a whore and kotonoha’s off her rocker.

  70. on 20 Nov 2007 at 6:41 pmsekaifan

u people all support katsura but u dont know all the wrong she was doin hurting a person who loverd her more than once black mailing setsuna see all u care abut is that she was bullied but she was bullyin as well. i wanted at the start that he should be with sekai but later on i wanted him dead or he could have gone bck to sekai i did feel sorry for katsura but i wanted and alot of people wanted sekai to go with itou

  71. on 26 Nov 2007 at 12:53 amsekaisuicides...

in my opinion, if sekai suicided, i think it would end up much like the opposite ending in the school days game where kotonoha suicides. basically, he breaks up with kotonoha, graduates high school, works at his mom’s job( was it his mom’s work, or was she the boss?) and never has another girlfriend after that, periodically visiting her grave to put flowers on it.

  72. on 26 Nov 2007 at 3:20 amsekaisuicides...

while i’ve only actually watched the last episode.. i’ve read summaries of the other ones. does anyone else think they took makoto up to a different level of jackass than how he was portrayed in the game?( though he was still a bastard in game most of the time.)

  73. on 26 Nov 2007 at 6:59 amShirukii

@ sekaisuicides: I haven’t played the game personally, but I do know that out of the 20+ endings in the game, only three were “bad ends”. It’s quite possible that Makoto wasn’t such an ass in the other ones, but with an experience strictly limited to the anime, many will never see the other side of him.

  74. on 26 Nov 2007 at 5:19 pmsekaisuicides...

@Shirukii: true enough i mean in a game with choices, he can only be as much of a bastard as you make him, right? (for anyone who has played, ignore all moments where Makoto takes matters into his own, very incapable, hands.)

  75. on 06 Dec 2007 at 4:34 amLulu

I’m pretty sure by saying “thank goodness” Makoto meant he was glad to die so that he wouldn’t have to deal with the pregnancy.

  76. on 06 Dec 2007 at 1:44 pmsekaifan

yeah i think yur right lulu

  77. on 16 Dec 2007 at 2:00 pmggultra2764

For those curious, here’s info on what was altered for the airing of School Days. From what I’ve heard, the makers of the series had a private showing of the uncut version of the final episode for fans who had the School Days game. Here was what I heard was altered:

-Blood color changed from red to black (pretty obvious from the screenshots).
-Shots of where Sakai’s knife was driven into Makoto were either replaced with flashbacks or had the shots show only a black screen.
-A shot of Makoto’s severed head in the dufflebag during Sakai and Kotonoha’s chat was cut.
-Sound effects of Kotonoha cutting open Sakai’s stomach after killing her were removed.

  78. on 27 Jan 2008 at 5:22 amasoch_3

People you really know nothing about anatomy… do you? At the point that Sekai was in her pregnancy unless you knew how an embryo looks like it would be for sure that you wouldn’t find anything! That’s one.

The other one. She could have just tell him that since the beginning instead of being inside her room crying for that bastard who was cheating on her…

So… she was pregnant! For God’s sake.

About the murders… I don’t think anybody deserved to die… too cruel… he should have ended up alone by himself and hated by everybody…

Senkai should have gone to France to be with her friend… I really like Senkai…. Yeah I did!! I did!! So what??

(I know I put this a lot late but…. didn’t know about this anime ’til today)

I just watch the majority of the episode, I must say that Seiko shouldn’t have die and for those who are calling Seiko a whore are nothing more than hypocrites. Because she slept with him many times and only him, she’s a whore? For fucking Christ sake people stop demeaning a woman decision, It’s ok for a guy to sleep with many girls while for the women they get an auto “whore’ label? I felt sad for Seiko due to the fact that she acted a little to late, me a Sagittarius myself would have done the same mistake she did because we are often tactless and inconsiderate of others feeling.

just finished, watching the ending was a big hurray for me… just wondering though, is Sekai really not pregnant, or was it just that kotonoha was just insane? i think you wouldn’t see a child on a mother’s womb at the stage of Sekai’s pregnancy

  87. on 27 Aug 2008 at 3:25 amBlackheart

(^_//) Makoto died..!!! He deserved it…Am I right..?

Well, Sekai died too because of her lie (pretending that she was pregnant..!)…Or not…

+++Well that’s all…I hope that there is another anime like School Days…Or maybe School Days Season 2…Hehehe…

btw sekai did get pregnant because in 1 of the episodes she suddenly vommited….n if something like that happens dat means u r pregnant……she also mentioned that her period didnt come (n i dont no WTF dat means lol)…but its something to do with pregnancy

also kotonoha DIDNT get pregnant because even tho people say taisuke raped her :/ …….i dont think she DID that kind of sex to get pregnant….i think it was only kissing….and taisuke took her clothes off….well i gess its called rape lol…..but i can tell…..SHE DIDNT GET PREGNANT!….n plus she was thinking about makoto and a girl as sweet as her would NEVER do anything like that if shes still goin out with a boyfriend!….das all i hav to say…

i feel sorry for kotonoha…..she did everything se could for makoto….BUT MAKOTO DOENST FUKIN REALISE THAT!….ALL HE CARES ABOUT IS SEX! HE WOULD DO ANY GIRL AS LONG AS HE GETS SEX!….i jus hope kotonoha gets happiness in her lyfe…as long as she is happy….i will be too :)

but o well it was a great ending! LOVED IT!

    ASGFPAKFJB!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWSOME ENDING

@Shirruki, a lot of what your saying is what I agree with. That kotonha can be excused, did you notice though she forced makoto to kiss her in front of Sekai? But she only did that and told Sekai of her friends betrayal because it had happened so many times to her, she did it once back. Using sex as a weapon beacause people had done it to her. Gin is the person I agree with the most though, they are very observent, I feel it was the food in the trash that sealed Makoto’s fate. Your completely wrong about Makoto deserving it, he absolutely didn’t, and you say it was a good ending for Katsura fans, and you yourself sound like she was your favourite character. You seem to be missing the fact that the one thing she had to live for was taken away from her. Looking back though people have made me realised (and better subtitles) that Sekai really did a lot of not nice things on top of the bringing honey to the bee trick. But also Makoto did learn his leason, some one said he didn’t because he left Sekai, I disagree, for once he assed how he felt about some one, decided he didn’t love them and therefore he would have to be brave and take the desicision to stop seeing them as its the kindest thing to do, stoping them getting hurt even more latter on. He also realised when he was looking at his phone for numbers and no one, except Katsura would answer or had any time for him, he realised then what was important. And If any thing Makotos male friend did turned out to be the better guy in that he only had one girl on his mind and turned down another knowing its not someone he wanted. So no matter how much you hate Makoto, it was a shocking ending for Katsura. I think the show was great, and the ending was great, criticism of it is curlish. And would people stop saying its a good “bad” ending, its a good dark ending though a very sad one. Well two people end up dead, the other only ever gets loved by someone for one day and then loses them. There was no goodies in this show but only four really evil people (the bullies who seemed by far the most selfish, they never expressed any regret, the show was trying to show us that goodish people can be the same a lot of the time) , but I have most sympathy for Katsura, she did two really cruel things, but it took way more than that to put her in that postion.

You’re right, Katsura with Makoto’s head resembles Clare XD.
    Anyway I’m really sorry… for Setsuna :(.

  96. on 27 Jan 2009 at 1:48 pmRicey

In the end katsura was the only innocent one. Both Makoto and Sekai was the evil ones out of the whole story. Katsura has a very unstable personality IE: talking on the phone to herself, Murder, and Makot’s head. Well in the end katsura is happy (enough). WELL PLAYED

i was so dumbfounded with the last few scenes of School Days. i didn’t see that coming! but it was so good to see Makoto suffering since he’s such an idiotic and hateful character. i loathe him so much! (he doesn’t deserve a harem, for heaven’s sake!) he’s probably the WORST anime male lead.

as for Sekai and Katsura, i felt a bit sorry for them. in my point of view, they were victims of the indecisive and overly-stupid male protagonist. that was the first time i had realized that one person’s indecisiveness could actually cause great havoc and worse, death.

but overall, that was a fresh ending. it was unique and sadly, could occur in reality (the fight for lovers, i mean). the ending justified the episodes which only had the you-know-what scenes (i personally don’t like such scenes). it’s a good watch though people might get annoyed from time to time. you know who i’m talking about.

I didn’t watch this anime (people told me not to) but just read your blog and

    I FEEL SO SORRY FOR KOTONOHAAAAAAAA!!! ;_;

It’s just so sad……that final pic of her on the boat is DAMN sad….the look on her face is just heart-breaking and I think the only thing that could save her now is if she got amnesia or something and met a nice guy who hopefully didn’t sleep with everything that was female and had a pulse. =_= Makoto certainly got what he deserved but a part of me wishes he hadn’t died just so Kotonoha could remain sane and happy.
    Eh…..I guess one out of two ain’t bad….XD;
