Claymore 19
August 9th, 2007 by Shirukii

Well, looks like another arc is managing to outdo the last. The War in the North arc is proving to be an action filled ride, what I was expecting when I first went into Claymore. Major story development is sacrificed with episodes like this one, but this is shounen, there needs to be some good old fashioned ass kicking once in a while and this arc is doing a great job with it.
And OSHI- Priscilla.
Episode Rating: 9.5/10

The fight against the three AOs (apparently this has been the abbreviation of awakened ones, but no one bothered to tell me ;_;) who launched a preemptive assault on the claymore. It’s apparent that the number of claymore that are able to stand up to the AOs are limited, the rest being little more than cannon fodder.
Flora and Undine’s teams are up against the AO that can control the flow of yoki. After some quick exchanges of blows, the AO lures Undine into charging him head on. Defenseless, he manages to take control of Undine and tries to make her cut off her own head, but much to his surprise, Undine’s brute strength is enough to overpower his control to a certain degree, much like the Duff vs Galatea fight we saw before. However, it’s clear that Undine’s movements are being restricted to a point where she can’t effective attack.

Deneve and Clare step in, knocking Undine out of the AO’s range and taking over the fight. The AO uses his yoki manipulation to put a temporary stop to their attack, but Clare and Deneve are no ordinary claymore. They push themselves past their limits to break free from his control and use the moment of surprise when the AO is confused about why they didn’t awaken to land some solid blows. It’s Deneve and her rapid regeneration technique that manages to finish off the fight, getting close enough to dig her sword into the AO’s neck, with some help from Undine’s brute strength they manage to relieve his body of his head.
Unfortunately, his consciousness hangs on long enough for a last ditch attempt to take some claymore with him. But Clare jumps in and uses her Flash Sword to chop his head into smaller pieces before he can do any harm.

Elsewhere, Jean’s team is finishing up as well. Using defense type claymores Veronica and Cynthia to distract the enemy, Jean charges up her GIGA DRILL BREAKER to its maximum 21 rotations just in time. Helen uses her extending limbs to bind the AO and Jean tears away it’s limbs and most of its shell, leaving Veronica and Cynthia to deal the final blows.

After taking care of their enemy, Clare begins to worry about Miria, who had to take an AO with only one team, but Deneve reminds her who they’re talking about. And sure enough, Miria finishes the job without so much as a scratch, making it evident that her growth compared to Clare, Deneve and Helen has been even greater.

After the three AOs are dealt with, Miria takes the opportunity to take a damage and status report. Despite heavy injuries, none of the 24 claymore were killed. However, Undine is unimpressed with Miria, saying that it was obvious the claymore without experience with AOs were just going to be a distraction, but Miria made them participate anyways, needlessly endangering lives. It’s Flora that steps in to answer the question, while it’s true that many of the claymore hadn’t dealt with awakened beings before, but now they have, and the experience gained from the fight serves to increase the overall strength of the group, no doubt Miria’s intention from the beginning. Undine reluctantly accepts the explanation, but still believes that it was a reckless move that could have cost them.

Meanwhile, Raki is wandering the North in search of Clare, checking the gravemarkers of fallen claymore to make sure Clare is still alive. In a deserted town he meets what seems like a small, defenseless girl (lol harem-esque boobgrab). The two of them are approached by a man who proceeds to question Raki a bit before inviting him back to their place to seek shelter from the cold, surprised that the girl, who apparently doesn’t take much interest in others, seems to have taken a liking to him. With that he suggests going home to the little girl…whose name just happens to be Priscilla.
Thoughts

Why helo thar Isley
Priscilla is moeeeeeee! Quite a change from the violent, entrails loving on horned monster we saw during Teresa’s arc. When she first appeared on screen I thought that it might have been Priscilla, but when she didn’t eat Raki’s guts on sight, I figured it couldn’t be. I’m curious as to how they’ll explain the change in behavior, it’ll most likely either be that Priscilla had an epiphany after her awakening and calmed down a lot, or Isley’s presence somehow has a calming/controlling effect on her. But based on the comments in previous episodes and Riful’s explanation a couple episodes ago, he’s probably weaker than her anyways.
And what becomes of Raki from here on? Unless all the awakened beings gathered at Isley’s place disguise themselves as inconspicuous humans all the time, Raki is bound to figure things out really quickly. Then what? Do they turn him into a yoma/claymore and awaken him to join the army? I think that would be reasonable, it would undoubtedly lead to Raki and Clare finding each other on the battlefield and give Clare an opportunity to repay the favor from when Raki brought her back from awakening. As a bonus, Raki receives a powerup abling him to fight on par with claymore without actually becoming one!
For the manga readers who are going to tear this theory apart, please remember to use the spoiler tags ;_;

Not much to say about the rest of the episode, it was purely action oriented, which was a nice change in pace. It’s also becoming apparent how Clare stacks up to the rest of the claymore, especially the scene where she surprises Flora by beating her to making mince meat out of the yoki controlling AO. Flora is now undoubtedly interested in her and knows that her power is far beyond that of her number 47 rank suggests.
The next episode looks like it’ll shift focus to Raki a bit. The preview showed him being confronted by a male claymore…or was that just Isley? I couldn’t really tell. In either case, not much speculating to be done aside from the whole Raki bit, so that wraps things up for this week.
Manga countdown: 7 weeks

Actually if i remember correctly that explanation was already given by riful but has been cut from anime. Basically the Calming Down part. Then again ive read the mangas LONG time ago, i might be talking out of my ass here.

Its hard to break your theory cause were the manga is at, ch73, we are FAR from knowing that yet. Show ▼

There will definitly be a bit more scenese with him, but nothing big. His story stays one of background for the rest of the manga Show ▼
I agree: Priscilla is Queen of the psycho moe lolis. And Raki’s got that uber pimp gene passed down to him by the late Sergay Wang of Mai Otome so of course he has to survive. How else will the super women of Claymore get by without him? :D
Well, since Isley was a male Claymore, technically both statements are correct. I think it was Galatea who mentioned that he was the top-ranked Claymore in his class, prior to becoming an Abyssal.
All the current 3 Dwellers/Abyssals were the 1st ranked Claymores of their time and they were exceptional 1st ranks too.
“All the current 3 Dwellers/Abyssals were the 1st ranked Claymores of their time and they were exceptional 1st ranks too. ”
nah
all number ones are exceptional
just some are even more unique (ie Priscilla and Theresa)
Great episode! It was also especially awesome to see Miria back in action again (well…a whole 5 seconds of it). She dispatched of that AO ridiculously quick, she didn’t even mess up her hair. Makes me wonder what kinda power ups she added to her arsenal whilst she was away…
Oh yeah one other thing….don’t you think the AOs are getting a bit of a raw deal when they transform? They always seem to turn into an insanely large beast that lacks any sort of agility in dodging attacks. Sure, they have heavy armour to guard against attacks but that can only get you so far. Its not fun blocking attacks with your face….hell Rocky made a career out of it! I swear one of them transformed into a turtle or something like that, i think i saw a aardvark in there too.
At least Shirukii is missing something important about Undine, if u want to understand y Undine didnt like the set up of Miria and always tell the weakling one step back, then u have to re-watch this ep again.
As u can see in the preview of this ep that Raki is practicing sword skill with Isley but as the manga at where it is right now, we dont know that Raki will become a Claymore, AO or not, so i think everyone is safe to discuss about Raki in the future because all we know from the manga is Raki stay with Isley for a long time and thats it.
*Note* this is not a spoiler from the manga but it is something i just figure out from the ending theme.
I just discovered something from the ending theme where they show Clare with a sad face up to the sky and then they show 6 swords around her (only ppl who reached manga chapter 12 could know who they are) , what i want to say here is, Did they really mean it that those 6 claymores is going to died?
This episode is fast-paced. It’s so fast, I said to myself, “Over already?”
Lots of action with little plot, episode 19 didn’t really filled my stomach. Action-wise, I always loved it when a single-digit Claymore dropped her jaw after seeing Clare’s awesomeness.
“That’s the ability of a 47th rank Claymore?!”
@ Erv: Only ch72 huh? Sucks about Claymore only being released monthly.
Thanks for the spoiler tags, I shall avoid them =D lol
@ Arakan7: I still think Riful’s loli form is superior to Priscilla, but as we get to know more about both of them, that might change.
@ Kabitzin: Riiight, I forgot about Isley being the number 1 of the male claymore age.
@ Cliff: I wonder how many eras of claymore there have been, and how they decide when to mark the start of a new era. A new number 1 perhaps?
@ Sim: The one that controlled yoki turned into something that looked like a turtle. I definitely agree on a whole, awakening seems to turn you into something sluggish most of the time.
@ Siva: o.o Undine’s reason for anger? I didn’t really notice one, care to fill me in?
@ SHiN_aKuMa: Well the arc seems to be far from over, this was only the first wave of attacks, no doubt the weakest. Isley must have some much stronger warriors in his makeshift military.
@Siva: I hope you are wrong regarding the six swords, otherwise this going to be one heck of a sad story.
@Shirukii: not at all, but if i told u how i know then that would be a spoiler. but a new generation i think is started whenever a certain amount of claymores die. and if i remember i think thers 70 something. 1 male era and alot of female eras
and another thing.
AO’s can be rediculously fast
like priscilla
and the one that ophellia fought caught her and ophellia is pretty fast.
@Siva: i’m pretty sure its reffering to the ppl that died in the past

oops that was a big spoiler right ther….
sorry guys forgot..
Some AOs are slow but some AOs are fast. They have their ability to compensate it.
Dauf - Tank. Slow. But has very powerful projectile.
Turtle - Tank. Slow. Can manipulate Yoki. So normally no one can near him or hurt him. If this battle doesn’t have half-awake Claymore, they all will die.
Grasshopper - Soft body but fast. Has many arm to defend and attack. Can fly.
ETC.
Well, you are forgetting the Many armed AO that appears in Ep-10 and 11. That one was pretty fast, though admittedly it wasn’t nearly as big as the ones that showed up recently.
On a side note, has anyone realised that most of the claymores have almost no idea how to break through armour?
@SHiN_aKuMa : “That’s the ability of a 47th rank Claymore?!” thats what i cant stop laughing with u. ^_^
@Shirukii : i guess Clare’s era is the 78th, Isley and Rifu r the first and second.
if u want to know about Undine’s reason, then u go back to check this ep at 13:11 where Undine ask about those 2 r alright or not with her soft voice and in a worry intention, and the other one is at 16:24 where she already get to understand Miria’s intention but she still say her strategy is reckless, if she acting tough from the beginning then why did she care so much about her comrade? thats all i can point it out to u , i think the next ep will tell u the reason behind this.
@hoho : u got the point there, and that is how everything work out. for example like Sakura + Chiyo = strength + Speed = God , LOL
-
I just figure out what is the meaning behind this 6 swords but before i explain this i need to ask Shirukii some questions first.
@Shirukii : what do u think of how many claymores will be able to survive after this battle?
@Alias : “On a side note, has anyone realised that most of the claymores have almost no idea how to break through armour?” i dont think it is a big reason but there is something i was wonder what kind of material they used for making claymore sword? y r those sword so hard even able to block a powerful atk from AOs without leaving a single scratch on the sword?
No, I meant the fact that the proper way to break through armour (In medival times, at any rate) is to stab through it with the tip. Frankly, I’m surprised that the sword didn’t break of already after swinging it around like that.
Anyway, As far as Raki’s future is concerned, I can only see 2 ways for him. Either A: He gets eaten by Priscilla for supper. Or B: He becomes the first male Claymore in a hundred years or so. Of course this is only my theory.
Just wondering, do we ever get to see the Current No.1 in action? I’m dying to see how she will match up with Teresa and the Abyssal ones.
I know this is extremely improbable, since romance is rather scarce on shounen action series, but… What if Priscilla actually falls for Raki? Now that would be one hell of a love triangle. And Raki is as dense as your average harem lead, so it might work.
You know? I’m rooting for Priscilla x Raki :D
I think you misunderstood that scene. Remember in the last ep, Jean said Flora’s Windcutter is a technique where she draws her sword, slashes, and sheathes her sword very quickly (so fast you can’t even she her draw and sheath her sword). So both Claire and Flora chopped up the AO’s head together.
you guys will see what is the difference between FS and WC in the next ep. and when the both of them chopped up the AO’s head together, in the manga they also explain what is the difference but the anime cut it out.
It’s hard to believe who I saw was Priscilla. At first I was like “hey a cute girl ^-^” then when I hear the name Priscilla I was “Priscilla…Priscilla…O dam thats Priscilla” lol. The Priscilla I still had in my mind was the one horned demon who used to be a blond girl so I was a bit shocked.
speaking of speed AOs, just wait 1 or 2 episodes…

just curious cuz i didn’t watch all the episodes
did they ever say the current number ones name?
Miria listed the top five Claymores during the Slashers Arc, the current #1 is Alicia. By now she should have made a cameo appearance but it was cut out of the anime.
Whoa, this post has become a spoiler minefield lol. I’m going to play it safe and bail out XD
ahh ok
so do ppl(anime watchers) know what her full name is?
cuz i only read the manga
Does anyone know if there will be another season. I started watching Claymore 3 days ago and after streaming all these episodes and finding out there’s a manga that’s still going on, It’d suck for it to stop.
It seems like Jean is only useful because of her drill attack that takes way too long to setup. I bet she’s going to get some claymores killed while waiting on her. Also I really wish the writers had downplayed the fact that Jean will do anything for Clare. The first time she says “use my life how you see fit” I was like ok I understand that. The second time I was like “are they trying to tell us something here?.”
After what seems like the fifth time of her saying something similar to that I am simply waiting for her to die.
I just got into Claymore yesterday and have watched all 19 episodes and read all the manga since then - It’s my new obsession!!! :O
Anyway, I wanted to mention something about Raki that has a bit of spoilerage in it:

ahh dangit i can’t use spoiler tags right >
Is episode 19 part 3/3 released ( anime ) cant seem to find it anywhere.
thx.
@ Azrael: I’m guessing you’re using Youtube of Veoh or something along those lines to watch anime. I can’t really help you much in that regard, but if you want some help getting torrent up and running, I’ll be glad to do that. It’s how most anime fans watch their anime as you can see from the poll =P
Give me an e-mail if you’re interested.
@ Shirukii, i watched em on www.tv-links.co.uk, they got alot of anime series and other stuff, but i got addicted to anime after the bastard series, vampire hunter D, devil may cry etc. used to read all the series in forgotten realms (D&D) drizzt / elminster, and ” the seven sisters ” daughter of mystra the god of magic ” who wields the silver fire, and that really reminds me of claymore alot, but i guess only “anime makers are the ones able to put some of that lore and athmosphere into motion, and claymore really enthralled me, gore, sex and drama and intense love stories ” not in the titanic kinda way ” but more like the devil falls in love with the angel, chaotic and twisted unreachable love ( iam not gothic ), i watched all the episodes 19 part 2/3, where raki meets isley, my email is
Djinn1924@hotmail.com,
íf u can help ill be most gracious…
damn iam thrilled to see the next episode, or episodes.
I’m glad they followed the manga very closely. We’ll be seeing more character development in the next episode and probably 2 or 3 episodes later will be the climax for this arc. ^^
As for Raki Show ▼
Can’t wait for the next release of the manga.
Oh Yeah, my wednesday is tomorrow. ^_^
Anyway, Shirukii, how many websites do u used to dl anime?
@ BeLe: Temptation to read manga…rising ;_;
@ Siva: Tokyo Toshokan and occasionally Baka-Updates
those 2 only work with new releases but for the old series one u need the other websites.
Oh Yeah, i forgot about something new to tell, there is a Miria’s side story that just released about a week ago. u maybe really want to know what is story all about, but i am looking forward to see Clare’s side story where they r going to explain us how was Clare brought up in the organization with her only friend, Elena -_-
OH, about Mira’s past is a really sad one, maybe that is how she become so strong and become #6. I dont want to spoiled anyone so u can read the manga by urself BUT IF U HAVEN’T READ THE MANGA OR DONT WANT TO SPOILED URSELF U BETTER DONT TOUCH IT AT ALL, BECAUSE THE BEGINNING OF THIS ONE IS A CUT SCENE FROM THE FUTURE EP. Thats all, arigato.
