Da Capo? In my food animu? It’s more likely than you think.

Considering my natural propensity to fanboy over everything, I’ve been pretty harsh on Lucky Star thus far. But episode 15 was winnage, and then some, for the Da Capo montage they threw together. Being a rabid fan of the series, despite its reputation as generic harem #9001, this has been the highlight of the entire season for me so far (or at least ties with WA WA WA WASUREMONO).

In my boredom, I scoured the intarwebs to find the CGs that the episode parodied and gathered them in a neat side by side comparison for your viewing pleasure:

From the top, the characters being portrayed are: Asakura Nemu, Shirakawa Kotori, Yoshino Sakura and Mizukoshi Moe.

Please take note that Nemu got twice the amount of CG parodies compared to the three others. Die in a fire Kotori :3

Nice work. I thought it was just a generic send up, although I ought to know better.

Nice comparison shots. That was definitely the highlight of ep 15 for me too…if only Kyoani were doing D.C. II instead of Clannad…

Konata’s not fooling anyone trying to impersonate Moe-senpai though–she’d need to have one hell of a growth spurt to catch up with her…

Those are some great comparison shots (^__O )

    nice comparison shots…
i would not have thought of you as a nemu fan…
    i really disliked nemu…
    kotori ftw…
and as suguru said… it would have been nice if kyoani would be the one to animate D.C. II

    @ intro: KyoAni loev references.

@ suguru: KyoAni seems to be stuck in an endless loop of alternatively animating shows of pure randomness, and Key adaptations. I’m still looking forward to Clannad though.

And yea, Konata hasn’t a chance in hell of rivaling Moe-senpai’s oppai.

@ Servbot: Thanks XD It took me quite some time to find them all.

@ kaz3phyrous: In the anime blogging community, I’d say only Stripey, our resident siscon, outdoes me in Nemu fanboyism. In addition to being siscon bait, Nemu had MUCH more screen time than Kotori and as a result became a well developed, identifiable character. Whereas Kotori was underdeveloped and rather two dimensional.

I, for one, am content just to see Da Capo II animated at all. KyoAni grabbing it would just be icing on the cake.

i know what you mean about the screentimes… it was probably decided at the start of the show that nemu was going to win anyways… and since da capo was the second harem anime i watched i was sure kotori was in equal footing with nemu… but upon watching it again i realized that from the start kotori never had a chance since juichi(sp?) was a hardcore siscon… and before you mentioned your love for nemu, stripey was the only other blogger i saw the loved nemu…

and on the D.C. II subject… i wonder if they’re gonna follow D.C. and make it a siscon anime or if they can give kotori vengeance and have nanaka win…

It’s my understanding that gold fish tend to get HUGE depending on the size of their environment, so it probably had hardly anything to do with the amount she was feeding him.

I thought Konata’s silence after the concert in the beginning what because Kagami traded seats with her… combined with the fact that she enjoy the concert of her own voice actor. Am I wrong, or was it just because she was dazzled by her voice actor’s singing/a Haruhi concert?

Also, nice caption. XD “Da Capo? In my food animu? It’s more likely than you think.” Too bad otakus will never be referred to as weeaboos, though. :/

Also, have you seen the image of a male character shedding manly tears (the subject making them possibly the MANLIEST of manly tears) because other 4channers don’t understand his love of Lucky Star floating around on 4chan? That one always cracks me up… I haven’t been able to find it recently, though. Also, there’s another one where he mentions that he “wants to give Konata a hug”… which cracked me up.

On a side note, does Konata say “What will my new mommy be like?” because she wants to make her father look stupid after not considering anything about dating… or to make him feel bad for considering remarrying, thereby making the audience think Konata really doesn’t want her father to remarry?

@ kaz3phyrous: Yea, Kotori had zero chance from the start up, hell I think Sakura got more screen time than Kotori in the original Da Capo.

As for DCII, the path they take will probably depend on who’s in charge of production.

@ Aaron Marsh: My thinking is that Konata finally realized what a great friend she has in Kagami. But because of the inconsistent flow of the series, we don’t really see any lasting effect, so who knows.

    >> Too bad otakus will never be referred to as weeaboos, though.

    Everyone on 4chan is a weeaboo =\

I think I’ve seen that image, it’s a manga scan of this really buff guy breaking down in tears. It’s been shooped to hell and back with all sorts of dialog lol.

Konata asking “What will my new mommy be like?” is her catching her dad’s April Fool’s joke. The episode was littered with them and Konata knew Awesome-kun was trying to pull one on her. She even smirks at the camera at the end of the scene.

  9. on 25 Jul 2007 at 11:58 amAaron Marsh

Oh… Awesome-kun was pulling an April Fool’s… but I really thought he was serious… he looked serious. o_O

I meant “too bad otakus will never be referred as weeaboos on actual animé“. :B

I know what you mean, this episode made up for episode 14 which really bombed. It’s a real hit and miss with this anime. What freaked me out though was Konata posing with her “boyfriend,” for some reason I keep thinking if her dad grew out his hair that would be him. Thanks for the comparisons, I knew that scene came from somewhere but I couldn’t put my mind to it.

    @AS
I’m pretty sure that Konata’s father being her “boyfriend” in that part was to represent “with a childhood friend”… as Konata’s mother and father were childhood friends, as well… so, I suppose Konata was also supposed to represent her mother in that scene.

    Nice comparison!

I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but there is another DC reference right after the God knows scene. Konata was spitting cherry petal, and that’s what happened to Nemu in the game.

apart from your review 1 and 2 it was a good episode.

…i thought she was cosplaying as haruhi for a second XD
