@Shirukii

THANK YOU! It was killing me to not know the name of that piece... spent the last hour and a half looking for it :P

Also, this series shows that noone, no matter how rightful or intelligent he or she is, is capable of "judging" who deserves to live or who deserves to die... yeah, it would've been all too easy for police to just let Light have his way and kill every criminal and "no harm would have been done to innocents"... but that would have only added to his sense of selfrighteousness and he would have ended up killing anyone that so much as crossed the street illegally.
anyways... thanks for the song name, shirukii.

According to the manga, Crime surged to above-kira levels after Light's death, but eventually stabilized at the normal rate.

So, basically, Kira lost

I think the world will still be significantly changed after Kira's "death".
I mean, how big was the movement supporting Kira?
How many will treat him as a martyr?
After a thousand years, will he still be revered as a Jesus type figure? Even if Light dies and the last notebook and it's scraps are destroyed, the legacy will live on... People might even try to be good just in case another Kira appears in the future.... Kira/Light won. The new world was created...

Light, in a way, wasn't a bad character. He was a rival whose good intentions turned to bad when he himself fought for power. He thought he was a god but in the end, all he really was was one of us. A greedy, selfish, egotistical human being who only thirsts for power every moment they walk the earth.

I'm not saying stuff like, "Oh! Mellow sucks!! He didn't do anything!" or "Screw LIGHT he was just the crazy main character!" or anything like that. I only think that through both endings, the manga & the anime, we can see the different points of how the world was affected by Light/Kira's death.

also,
I PWN ALL OF YOU
except Mikami
he is pwned by pens.

Oh, and Ryuk is free from Light, which means he won't get bored and kill Light in prison. Always a good angle to cover.

Light might have been able to dig himself out. Assuming he believes a world where he still lives, and has the potential to again become Kira, is better than one where he is dead...

"Yes! I am Kira... or rather, Kira inhabits this body. I am no human, confined to a single body, nor am I one of those self-styled "gods of death" who are disembodied souls. I am a half-soul, a parasite of the mind.

Do you think it was a coincidence that Light found the Death Note? Of all the people in the world, it was one with both intelligence and useful connections? Of course not! I was very careful when I arranged it for Light to be my new host. Alone, I am stupid. But when I possess a human, I can combine my knowledge with their brain, and create a gestalt greater than the components! Light's brain gave me the tools I needed to consume the lives of humans without interruption. But the only thing that matched the capacity of his mind was the stubbornness of his subconscious. Did you really think Light was so stupid as to intentionally leave clues for his opponent? To taunt L with his actions? Of course not! He was fighting my influence from the start, influencing my reactions even as I controlled his. When I found it impossible for him to kill L, I was forced to take action myself and control the Shinigami, destroying it in the process. Light's struggle, though admirable, was ultimately futile.

There was, I admit, a period when I was forced to abandon my host, but that was soon resolved. Touching a note when my temporary host dies is one way I can be transferred. Near, I can see what you have done. Although you are not yet suitable, I can see your promise as a host. At such a young age, your intelligence is already obvious. After a few more years of experience and training you will exceed even Light. And you've already taken the first step. Did you honestly think that I hadn't expected for you to write down Mikami's name? Did you really think using the note was an action you could take without repercussions?

Just as before, I will be force to abandon this vessel. With the assistance of this wonderful brain I have made contingencies. And now, I leave you with a sadistic choice! Killing Light would eliminate one host, but would also leave you without the mind that created these plans.

Why am I telling you this? Because now that you have this knowledge, I win either way. Either you knowingly kill an innocent man, giving me an opening into your soul, or you leave a potential host for me.

It is irritating to leave after having fed so long... As for this body, and the note, I discard them both!"

There. Light is now Good!Light, with potential to become Kira!Light, Near is suitably freaked out, the legend of Kira will continue even if Light is killed, since they can't be certain this is all a tissue of lies, and there's quite a bit of truth in the long monologue, which Near will discover when he tries to verify any of it. If nothing else, it's a mean-spirited way to screw with Near's mind even after death, and I doubt Light would give up the chance.

Ah man. These commentaries were awesome. But I have to say, this episode kinda let me down (I hate abrupt endings. HATE THEM.)
I'm happy Near won though. It couldn't be any other way.
But...
L's Death? *sob*
Mello's Death? *sob*
EVEN Matt's Death? *sob*

HOWEVER:

Mikami's Death? I LAUGHED. HARD.
I dunno, MAYBE that's saying something about me, but I don't think so, I think it's just hilarious!
And it brings back a motivational poster I saw once:
Blood: The average Anime characters body contains 46 gallons of it.

WAY TO BLEED YOURSELF TO DEATH MIKAMI :woot:

And hooray for Near! NEAR FTW (and whomever says otherwise, I fart in your general direction!!!)
