Also, this series shows that noone, no matter how rightful or intelligent he or she is, is capable of “judging” who deserves to live or who deserves to die… yeah, it would’ve been all too easy for police to just let Light have his way and kill every criminal and “no harm would have been done to innocents”… but that would have only added to his sense of selfrighteousness and he would have ended up killing anyone that so much as crossed the street illegally.

So, basically, Kira lost

I’m not saying stuff like, “Oh! Mellow sucks!! He didn’t do anything!” or “Screw LIGHT he was just the crazy main character!” or anything like that. I only think that through both endings, the manga & the anime, we can see the different points of how the world was affected by Light/Kira’s death.

When I found it impossible for him to kill L, I was forced to take action myself and control the Shinigami, destroying it in the process. Light’s struggle, though admirable, was ultimately futile.

There was, I admit, a period when I was forced to abandon my host, but that was soon resolved. Touching a note when my temporary host dies is one way I can be transferred. Near, I can see what you have done. Although you are not yet suitable, I can see your promise as a host. At such a young age, your intelligence is already obvious. After a few more years of experience and training you will exceed even Light. And you’ve already taken the first step. Did you honestly think that I hadn’t expected for you to write down Mikami’s name? Did you really think using the note was an action you could take without repercussions?

Just as before, I will be force to abandon this vessel. With the assistance of this wonderful brain I have made contingencies. And now, I leave you with a sadistic choice! Killing Light would eliminate one host, but would also leave you without the mind that created these plans.

Why am I telling you this? Because now that you have this knowledge, I win either way. Either you knowingly kill an innocent man, giving me an opening into your soul, or you leave a potential host for me.

There. Light is now Good!Light, with potential to become Kira!Light, Near is suitably freaked out, the legend of Kira will continue even if Light is killed, since they can’t be certain this is all a tissue of lies, and there’s quite a bit of truth in the long monologue, which Near will discover when he tries to verify any of it. If nothing else, it’s a mean-spirited way to screw with Near’s mind even after death, and I doubt Light would give up the chance.

HOWEVER:

Mikami’s Death? I LAUGHED. HARD.
I dunno, MAYBE that’s saying something about me, but I don’t think so, I think it’s just hilarious!
