i just have one question that i would like to ask does the game or the anime give any information about the real Makoto Sawatari? i just felt that she should have been given a more detail part in the anime

I just watched some episodes of Kanon 2006 and I gotta say, it’s just not my thing. I guess it’s because I’ve never really been a big fan of harem and overtly cute anime characters. Anyway, I gave it a shot, and I’m sorry to say, I didn’t like it (I really had no clue that this was going to be harem series).

Guess I’m not a normal fanboy am I? But to each their own I say.

Just as i thought i can take refuge here from flames out there, some ppl has to ruin the peaceful mood with arguments that are “justified” by null reasons. Let’s see,

@ fubu
1) Uh… i dont see the purpose of bringing this up? We all know that already…

2) No one is selfish in this story. Actually no wait, i do see ur point, everyone IS selfish afterall, for the fact that each person has to their reason to care for the others, because to fulfilled one’s most important people’s wish/happiness, is their happiness. Now THAT’s, selfish.

3) At least one Ayu is a solid, existing human, thaz for sure.

4) It’s up to thee that u think Ayu’s “selfish” or watever, that’s ur preferences. BUT thy not liking a character does NOT mean thou should question or even have the right to BELITTLE others’ peaceful fondness of him/her. Opinions? Sure. Calling someone “naive” jsut because u loathe his/her favorite character? Bad, bad move. It only shows how narrowminded u r, fitting to ur own term: naive.

6) She got scavenged as a “huge bag of hot pot ingredient.” Refer to Ep03 of the series.

7) But hey, this show consists of fantasy element, u cant say “what if i take the fantasy element out” just as u cant say “what if i take a computer’s circuits and boards out.” These elements composed Kanon of what it is right now, solid. U cant judge a piece by implying “what if i take these out” because that just won’t make any logical sense.

8) That’s up to u to believe it that way, but wat bothers me is that, u can at least give a reason of why dont u like other elements, even a very subjective opinion like “it doesn’t appeal to me” can justify ur opinion.

1) The Makoto that saved Yuuichi’s life wasn’t the fox Makoto.

2) Mai isn’t selfish (even in the beginning of her arc). She’s independent. Yuuichi is the most selfish character in this anime.

3) Ayu is not really human. There’s three of her (I think Ayu can’t die)

4) What part of Ayu do you really like about her? Her uguness? Her cute demeanor? How naive you are. She’s the third most selfish character in the group. She’s way too irritating. (imagine someone asking you for taiyaki or help her finding her lost item almost every day – in a real life situation, people would want to kick her)

5) Makoto is better as a fox – and she should stay that way.

6) How did Makoto get into the household in the first place?

7) If you take any fantasy elements out of this, this show would be crap.

8) What’s good about the series is its increased quality and setting design.

@ Nightingale: Completely agree’d about Toei’s version of AIR. I was more or less impartial to their changes in Kanon, but their AIR adaptation didn’t do justice to the series at all.

@ Ryan A: Better late than never XD In terms of potential in the characters, I found that they all changed quite significantly. Shiori and Kaori were given a new perspective on life, Mai learned to be more honest and trusting, Nayuki learned to cope with loss, Yuuichi learned that imitating Kyon isn’t the end all solution to life, and Makoto…is a fox.

As for “Which would you have liked to see more of?” As much as I want to say Nayuki, I kind of wanted to see Shiori’s story fleshed out a bit more. But more Nayu-chan never hurts ^^

I’m a little late here, but nice write-up. I like the points made ^^ I do wish Nayuki did have more play in the series, damn.

Well I suppose I enjoyed Nayuki and Sayuri most because they were quite normal, but I think the idea behind this aspect is that because they are normal they seem more dynamic (or would be). Though, these characters don’t change much throughout the series.

I guess I’ll call it “dynamic potential” in their characters that attracted me. Ayu, Makoto, Mai they have spectacular/special/fantastic attributes and dispositions, but since they have these ingrained set ways, their dynamic potential didn’t strike me as much. Ayu’s not going to lose her Uguu~ in Kanon II (theoretically if there was one).

I guess my ranks slightly correspond to, “Which character would you like to see in an alternate story? (similar to CLAMP reusing characters)” or “Which would you have liked to see more of?”

Hehe, I didn’t really think about this until now though.

I’m not exactly sure about the bad ending, ive seen ppl talking about it, but ive nvr actually managed to play out every single endings, GE/BE… i no for instance U1 can definitely die in Mai’s arc for sure, thats one uber trap for those who aren’t careful with their choices, but i dunno wat happens in Ayu’s arc, which i’d luv to find out (u no, watching U1 die is a rather ’sad’ entertainment.) Sometimes i play out those nicely written bad ending just for thoughts. Like Shiori’s and Mai’s BE i mentioned b4, they’re rather well done.

Toei… hmm, i could have gone subjective, especially whenever i think about them i go berserk for their adaptation of AIR movie (the first Toei’s KEY adaptation i saw, and Nuuuuuuu they make Misuzu sooo not Misuzu!!!!! Yukito become so pimpy in the movie!!!! And WTH have they done to Ryuuya O___O), ever since then i cant help to get a irky feeling of how they messing up the original great image i have for AIR and Kanon… *glares*

Just out of curiosity, what language is the other blog in?

O_O At Yuuichi dying in the blizzard for the bad ending, I don’t remember that happening. As for Toei’s ending…meh, I didn’t really mind it, they took a chance and tried something different, it was greeted with mixed reviews. I’m kind of impartial, thought that may be because I’m not much of a Nayu fan.

Nayuki Ending,
The kiss was absolutely NOT stolen (one major reason i hated Toei’s distortion of her arc).
First of all, a sad Ayu farewell to U1 (wave bye bye on the street, i cant believe the author decided to go all out at describing Ayu’s lonely gesture at this part when its not her arc, giving me a painful time when im suppose to be concentrating on Nayuki >_>)
The accident and depression pretty much went the same like KA’s adaptation, except upon Nayuki’s depression, after she kicked out U1, U1 went into some deep thinking, and then he put the legendary clock into Nayuki’s room when she’s asleep (dont ask me why the door wasn’t locked,) and he went out to the bench and waited, pretty much for a whole day like he did for Ayu in her arc (without the snowstorm, tho i cant remember if there was a snowstorm in Ayu’s arc, i heard one of the bad ending is that U1 actually did die from the blizzard… OTZ). And the after the long waiting Nayuki shows up and similar scene of forgiveness in KA’s adaptation, except leaning more towards romance at the end and theres the kiss. Epilogue shows their normal lives as usual, with Akiko-san fully recovered. Nayuki suddenly asks U1 about Ayu’s whereabout, and tells him briefly about what happened 7 years ago (something about losing a very good friend back then,) U1 seems to have gotten over with the scar now that Nayuki is with him. And then finally, the story ends with the alarm clock going off because Nayuki forgot to turn it off… the epic recorded version of U1’s confession that every Nayu fan were ranting for.
