Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora 05

Ah, back to basics

I didn’t think it were possible, but the balance between absolute randomness and plot development this episode was almost perfect. The only downside is that there wasn’t nearly as much monologuing from Kuu, but I suppose nothing comes without its price. On that note, Mika MUST DIEEE! Chikane > You, not the other way around T_T where’s the justice!

Episode Rating: 9/10

A few days have passed since the end of the last episode and Kuu is in the process of baking a cake to thank Kyoshiro for repeatedly saving her. However, we know better than to expect she can cook, as she soon ends up on the floor covered in cake batter, which means…

I have a pretty good idea where this is going…

…yep, you guessed it: another KuuXSetsuna bath scene. Setsuna asks Kuu if she wants her help to make the cake, but Kuu explains it will have more meaning if she does it by herself. Setsuna kicks it into emo gear and starts ranting about how she’ll never be anything but a weapon to Kyoshiro. Kuu begins to question her…but Kyoshiro apparently has Setsuna trained with one of those servant bell dealies, so she runs off to answer to his whims.

Shortly after, Kuu interrupts the two and asks if she could do some shopping, several awkward suggestions later and the trio end up going together.

A short shopping montage later, the three end up on a riverbank, Setsuna has ditched the emo mode and is now full out jealous of Kuu. The tranquility doesn’t last long, however, as Kaon, who after being raped tortured is now unquestionably loyal to Mika, and got some serious power boostage. She quickly dispenses of Setsuna and throws an attack at Kuu, which Kyoshiro helps her dodge. Setsuna emerges from the lake and asks Kyoshiro for more mana, undoubtedly half out of jealousy. And when he rushes over to oblige, Kaon sweeps in and kidnaps Kuu.

Back at *insert really long school name* it’s revealed that Mika’s full name is Ayanokoji (ie. she’s another one of Kyoshiro’s siblings). She questions Kuu for a while, poking some holes into her ideals about Kyoshiro’s nii-san Kazuya. But it’s when she starts sympathizing with the Absolute Angels that she metaphorically shoots herself in the foot. Himeko is ordered to enlighten her to her current situation, she kisses Kuu and, surprisingly (?), she starts to let off mana rays. ZOMG PLOT TWIST.

OSHI-

Elsewhere, Kyoshiro has devised a plan to rescue Kuu, he plans to lure Batraz to *insert really long school name* and make her fight with Kaon, presumably to weaken her so Setsuna can go in for the kill.

Thoughts

I KNEW IT! I FREAKING KNEW IT! From about episode two I had a suspicion that Kuu was an Absolute Angel (probably a really strong one at that). But I didn’t say anything in fear of being wrong T_T Cooking up crazy theories is more Soda’s thing *shrugs*

In any case, a great episode. As I said before, an almost perfect balance of plot elements and randomness. AND the plot seems to be developing in a coherent manner now, instead of the barrage of unnecessarily long names and terms.

Kuu’s monologues continue to be the highlight of this series, I literally lol when she puts so much emphasis on trivial matters like shopping, picking out a broach, and taking a bath. But when she gets kidnapped it’s “I got kidnapped again, but that’s okay, I’ll be fine…probably”. If only there were girls this naive and innocent in real life D=.

Aside from Kuu, I’m kind of saddened to see Setsuna get repeatedly shafted. The jealousy she’s feeling now is probably central to the plot later (as it did in Kuu’s kidnapping scene), but it sucks to see such a loyal bishoujo play second fiddle =(

…okay I lie. I just like her character design better.

How low you have fallen Girochi

On the topic of characters, what’s up with Sojiro (Kyoshiro’s brother and loli yuri furry’s side kick)? He was so badass in Kannaduki no Miko…but in Kyousora he’s pussy whipped, (lol, c wut I did thar?) attending to her needs, wearing maid clothing, cooking and being a tool in general. This from the guy who had the mecha who’s FIST was twice the size of all the others mechas full chassis. The hell happened!?

Back to the plot, it’ll be interesting to see how Kuu copes with the knowledge that has been thrust upon her. Ever since learning about them she’s sympathized with the Absolute Angels, but subconsciously held herself above them. She thinks they should be treated as more than just weapons, but repeatedly used the fact that they weren’t human to boost her own esteem and status with Kyoshiro. But now, in a swift blow from our good old friend irony, she’s in the position of the very beings she’s sympathized and looked down on.

Will her world break down, or will she rise above her status and hopefully beat the living crap out of Mika? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!

It’ll be interesting to see how the story unfolds, as it seems that most of the key characters have been introduced and all the cameo characters discarded. So far Kyousora has outdone Kannaduki no Miko in almost every conceivable way, especially mecha and storylines, with the exception of relationship development (HimekoXChikane > KuuXKyoshiro). Hopefully the goodness continues as they continue to refine the delicate balance between the like…10 genres this anime has going for it.

lol, I saw wut you did thar

Anyways, I think you’re wrong about the Setsuna jealousy thing. Setsuna is has the z0mg-im-an-aa-i-cant-love-i-cant-feel-emotion thing going. The irony is that Kuu, also an AA, obviously CAN feel love and emotion. So of course, the resolution will be that Kuu will show Setsuna how to love. Amirite? Yaimrite.

After Kyoshiro becomes an hero, Setsuna and Kuu will ride off into the sunset.

It’s not even irony. The Ayanokouji posse really needs to shut up, clearly EVERY SINGLE AA we’ve seen so far can feel emotion. I propose 4some (with Himeko, because she’s Himeko, and without Taruotte, because she sucks).
