Death Note 14/15

Kisu desu, watashi no ouji-sama!
Combo post! Mainly since I didn’t think 14 was interesting enough to blog independently. However! 15 is a great reminder as to why I watch Death Note, the battle is back on. Though there still isn’t as much exposition of the thought processes of Light and L as I’d like…at least there were some cool plot twists and such. On that note, I have lost faith in both Light and L as representing figures of justice, more on this in the thoughts section.
Episode 14 Rating: 7/10, Episode 15 Rating: 9.5/10
Sooo…episode 14 was really boring in my opinion. Having met up with Misa, Light starts to make use of her immediately, thinking of a way to use her to kill L. He instructs her to send a final tape which thanks the police for warning her and that she will stop trying to meet Kira. Even I found this to be a stupid move, based on Misa’s past determination to meet with Kira AND her previous mention of having identified him, it wouldn’t make sense that she suddenly backs off. The only plausible explanation would be that the two Kiras have met and made a feeble attempt at hiding it, expectedly, L sees this as well.
The rest of the episode is about Misa being jealous about Light having to date other girls in order not to draw attention to Misa explicitly.
Episode 15 was far more interesting, Light has gotten Rem (Misa’s shinigami) to agree to kill L for him. However, L tells the investigation squad and Light, that should he die, it would serve as evidence that Light is the real Kira.
Amidst this conversation with L, Misa decides to conveniently show up. Light introduces her as his girlfriend, which sends alarms off in L’s head. Having collected forensic evidence earlier on, L is almost certain that Misa is the second Kira. To further try and implicate Light, he pickpockets Misa’s cellphone. A few seconds later Light calls it in hopes of getting L’s name, he remains fairly calm when L picks up and politely asks him to return it to her.

Just as Light’s about to call Misa’s second cellphone, L receives a call and informs Light that Misa has just been arrested on the suspicion of being the second Kira. Later, he also tells Light’s father that Light might be arrested under the suspicion of being the real Kira.
L takes no chances, he restrains Misa in a straight jacket and covers her eyes. Then, probably to the shock of most viewers who haven’t read the manga, he tortures the poor girl D=. After a few days of torture, Misa asks Rem to kill her, instead Rem suggests she give up her Death Note and have her memories erased. Misa’s Death Note goes to Light, who has a plan to rescue Misa and clear her name, he then bids farewell to Ryuk, for reasons which we’ll probably find out next week.

Thoughts
Light and L are heartless bastards, seriously. Knights of justice my ass, these two are just locked in a childish game of wits. Light has seemingly completely abandoned his original purpose of ridding the world of crime, he’s just on a huge “I R TEH GOD!” power trip. As for L, he had no sense of justice to begin with, he’s just a genius who has nothing better to with his time, so he uses his intelligence to solve criminal cases. In other words, he’s just bored, and treats most cases like a game.
Light’s treatment of Misa is so demeaning, I understand that it’s necessary to control her so she doesn’t get caught AND at the same time find a way to work her into his plans without implicating himself. But really, he has no decency, he’s been confronted with a person who is literally willing to give her life for him, but shows no interest in her aside from her shinigami eyes.
Not to say that I like or am trying to defend Misa, but Light’s manipulation is just too heartless. He doesn’t consider her feelings when he barks out orders or nonchalantly tells her that he needs to date other girls, his motives are completely selfish.
As for L, any chance of him being regarded as just or moral by me have just been thrown out the window. I’ll concede that restraining Misa like that was a necessity, as he doesn’t know exactly how Kira’s powers work, so he can’t take any chances. But then he tortures her? Not only is this immoral, it’s illegal! Even though she may be one of the most dangerous serial killers the world has ever seen, torture is unreasonable and arguably far worse than the death penalty.

Kawaiso
Anyways, that concludes my rant, I’m writing this at 2 am on very little sleep so I’m noticeably irritated XD My ranting on these L and Light doesn’t mean that I hate the series or the characters, on the contrary I still find them both very interesting. But that doesn’t change the fact that their both immoral hypocrites. However, the fact that non existent, animated, personalities could rile up such hate in me means that the series is doing a great job at building them up, kudos.
Well, I think it’s about time to finish this entry, my ability to think coherently is rapidly failing me T_T Let’s hope the next episode rides the momentum and properly explains Light’s plan. I’ve been hearing that he ends up in jail next week, based on the preview, so I’m curious to see whether or not that is an intended part of Light’s plan, or if he just got pwnt.

“I’m never washing this hand again”

Silly Misa, you’re not Ayu

Shouldn’t Light’s family be slightly curious about this one >_>? Misa looks like she just had the best time of her life, if you know what I mean ^^

I thought I was the only one who thought what L did was like whoa xD I think I’ve been holding him in much higher regard than he deserves.
I still rate him as more just than Light, but barely. They’re both morally devoid and trivialize the repercussions of their actions. Apparently they’re portrayed much better in the manga, but I’ve yet to read it D=
I’ve only managed to get the first volume, and it’s basically the same as the anime so far xD
I dunno though, (call me immoral if you wish), but L seems to at least have good reason for restraining Misa. restraint….or death. hmm…interesting. But what I saw on the anime as apparent ‘torture’, it doesn’t seem very evil to me, simply further lengths then most people, that L is willing to go before he stops.
…eh, i’ve not much idea what i’m on about, sorry guys.
