Aozora (AIR)
January 18th, 2007 by Shirukii
Yet another guitar adaptation of a great anime song. This time it’s Aozora from AIR, original song by Lia.
Unlike the two other posts of similar content, the guitarist is different this time around. He goes by the online alias Karimono, and apparently he and Kurikinton Fox know each other. Unfortunately my limited skill in the Japanese language has left me unable to find Karimono’s website. There are numerous videos on youtube however, should you be interested.
On to the actual song! Excellent rendition, much like Kurikinton, Karimono replaces the vocal track with the guitar melody and also plays his own backing. But what really awed me was the intro and outro where he used a synthesizer to play the flute/recorder parts. I thought it was especially awesome since he could have opted to play the backing instead. It also shows how rich he is T_T synthesizers aren’t cheap.
The arrangement remains faithful to the original, choosing not to add any improvised solos or artistic liberty. The guitar parts sound pretty good, the simplicity of the song allows for clean notes and smooth playing, ie. no rushed fret mashing. The exaggerated vibratos were a little over the top, but I think Lia’s voice was a little shaky in the original as well, so it’s possible he’s just trying to mirror that.
*contemplates AIR rewatch*

Wow, that was really awesome. Makes me wish that I could play the guitar.
Okay, now my question is: How do they do that? o___o I mean, what program do they use to play different sounds?? I do play the guitar myself and honestly speaking, it really is not that difficult to play such easy notes. But to play flute sounds over the guitar really is interesting… especially the xylophone part at the end was really cool.
Only thing I didn’t like though was his excessive bending frenzy… He shouldn’t have used the stick at all >_>
*me goes to find such a program*
