Kanon 14 – Sayuri =3

=3

As to be expected, this episode was full of Mai and Sayuri. We venture a bit into the past, stick around in the present long enough for some big things to go down, and are left thinking about what the future holds. Oh, and Sayuri ftw.

To start off the episode, we have sleepy Nayuki sleeptalking =3 and then Ayu eating the mysterious Akiko Jam. Yikes. But after the morning’s nonsense, we get into the meat of Kanon. Nayuki gives a pair of bunny ears toYuuichi, which no doubt must come play a role later on in the story. Just another story that will tie in deeply with the past, I’m sure.

Later on, Yuuichi continues his practice of his non-existant sword skills. After a total beatdown by Mai, Sayuri pops in and displays her skills. Mai gets rid of her harshly, and Sayuri walks away a sad panda =( Fastforward [or should I say… rewind?], and Sayuri’s pouring out her childhood story to Yuuichi in a café. ‘Tis a sad story too, one of a little brother no more.

Night falls, and Sayuri decides to head over to school to meet up with Yuuichi and Mai. Upon arriving, she meets one of the monsters, and needless to say, the next time we see Sayuri’s face is in a hospital.

I rather liked this episode, mainly due to the amount of screentime Sayuri enjoyed. Loli-Sayuri’s story was sad, and I really sympathize with her. Not to say I had a really mean sister and that I was deathly ill leading to my death… but I feel like I can kind of relate to that story from Kazuya’s perspective. A child all alone, with nothing more than his sister. Oh Loli-Sayuri, you should’ve been a wee bit more lenient =(

Back to normal Sayuri, her rooftop scene of challenging Mai to a swordfight really reminded me of Mikuru, for whatever reason. From the sudden slip + faceplant right down to the blind rush. Right after that part, Mai was completely cold to Sayuri with her “you’re getting in the way” comment. Ugh. I really dislike Mai for that. You can accomplish the same thing without making Sayuri feel like absolute crap, thank you very much. /SayuriFanboyism

I know Mai has good intentions for Sayuri, and only wants to protect her… but hurting her like that just isn’t the way to go. And let me just get this straight: she doesn’t want Sayuri getting involved, to the point where Mai feels the need to hurt Sayuri just to get her away from any danger. Yet… Mai has absolutely NO problem with throwing Yuuichi into the fray, someone that she no doubt feels something for, and someone who she feels couldn’t defend himself against balloons. What the heck is wrong with her -_-“ And her little psycho rampage at the end of the episode didn’t do much to raise my sympathy meter for her. No, it just proved that she was psycho. /Semi-Anti-Mai rant

Now when Yuuichi stopped that psycho rampage, I’ll admit I’m QUITE surprised he didn’t go for the kiss. I mean seriously, it was the perfect setup. Perfect justification, and the fact that their faces were separated by 5 centimeters [per second? =0 Shinkai!] means he was in prime position. This is the same Yuuichi that walked into Makoto’s bathtime, and tried to join her. You’re trying to tell me he wouldn’t try to steal a little kiss? Just a little peck? But alas. I don’t like Yuuichi anyways. Kitagawa is even better than him. And by “Kitagawa”, I mean “キタガワ━━━(゚∀゚)━━━!!”

Straying from just talking of characters, I thought the swordfight between Mai and Yuuichi was rather… disappointing. It wasn’t a real fight, the only thing animated was the flurry of strikes by Mai =/ I was hoping for some choreography, but I guess I’m expecting too much. And psycho Mai cutting things up was a little unrealistic. The last time I checked, walls are a bit stronger than that. And bikes too. Either that sword was forged by God himself, or Mai should’ve accidentally killed Yuuichi during the earlier fight.

Random sleeptalking is made of win and moe

Maybe not so random sleeptalking afterall…

A sad loli-Sayuri is sad

Very sad ;_;

How could they NOT have kissed??

Episode rating: Sayuri/10

    Well, my memory is fuzzy on the details, but if I am not mistaken; like Akiko’s jam, it is not really explained where Mai got her sword from, so yeah… it might as well been forged by God himself. ^^;

    Also, as a Mai fanboy, I was a little hurt by your harshness towards her. ^^; But to each his own, eh? :)

    Cheers.

    Obviously, Sayuri/10 is a very good rating =D

    And fine, if there ever is a next post, I’ll tone it down on the anti-Mai ranting =( But honestly, it’s not like I hate her, I just.. don’t like her as much as the other girls, I guess.

    Nayu+Sayu+Ayu ftw!
