*Obligatory Touhou Post*

Sorry about the complete lack of posts. I haven’t been watching anime as much as I normally do. I guess I either overloaded myself, or there’s just too little series I’m interested in. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t thoroughly enjoy Kanon, it’s the only series right now I’m actually into.

But in any case, I’m going to stray a bit from anime for right now, and speak of one of the two things currently consuming my soul. Yes, it’s the much anticipated obligatory Touhou post.

As a little background, the Touhou series is a series of Japanese doujin games created by Team Shanghai Alice. Interestingly enough, it’s not much of a team at all, as there’s only one member, ZUN. I have immense respect for ZUN, as he created these amazing games, as well as the music behind them. Doing such a wonderful series just by himself is quite the impressive task [on that note, I’m in awe at Shinkai’s work on Hoshi no Koe].

There have been many games released, like Shoot the Bullet and Imperishable Night. With the exception of one game [Immaterial and Missing Power], all the games are danmakus. The action gets absolutely intense when millions of bullets are flying your way, and you hope that somehow you can survive JUST long enough to beat the boss. However, even with all the bullets on screen, there are definite patterns to them as they create a work of art in the way they interweave.

Now I had my little Shoot the Bullet addiction, but I’m mostly over that now. My current Touhou addiction is Marisa, and how she stole the precious thing!

I have watched this flash/listened to this song endlessly, and yet I can still continue to do so. So yes, apparently Marisa stole Alice’s precious thing: her heart! I think this flash stole a bit of my sanity, to be honest. No sane person would be as addicted to it as much as I am ORZ In any case, with any luck, the flash has managed to steal someone else’s sanity by the time you finish reading this post =p [But I also realize this is a rather old flash. Maybe your sanity was already stolen by now?]

    “Imperishable Night” still holds my top spot overall in the series. And yeah, Touhou 10 this summer! The wait is killing me…

    I concur with Leviathean: if you haven’t seen Phantasmagoria Mystical Expectation or Overdrive, do so now. They’re so awesome.

    Just as an aside, the first Touhou game, Highly Responsive to Prayers, isn’t a curtain-fire game - it’s basically Araknoid with Reimu Hakurei’s balls.

    @pKjd: StB forever! I was horribly addicted to that back in the day, but luckily [unluckily?] that’s over. Tho maybe I should pick it up again, try to pick off the few levels I haven’t yet completed. I swear some of that stuff is impossible T_T

    @Leviathean: Yes, I have seen the other IOSYS flashes. Phantasmagoria Mystical Expectation was nice, but didn’t register anything on the addiction scale. Overdrive… I just didn’t really like. It lacks an awesome song with awesome lyrics [something Marisa Stole the Precious Thing had plenty of], and it just didn’t capture me. I will say that I liked the DDR part of the flash, but that’s it =/

    @Spiritsnare: Thanks for the links to the other flashes, I’m sure it’ll help someone else out plenty =) As for Highly Responsive to Prayers, that’s certainly news to me that it wasn’t a danmaku. I haven’t played any of the PC-98 games, so I admit I wouldn’t know much about them. Hmm, sounds like quite the interesting game..

    I´m also addicted to this: i´ve listened it over 200 times, and I still can´t stop! It´s weird. My sister says it´s becouse i´m insane.
