Set in a fantasical land based on ancient empirical China, it's a story of Kou Shuurei's walk of life as she pursues her ambitions and the people in her life. It starts off a little bit slow, and there's some weird yaoi-ish vibes at first (( it is brief and stops after a while )), but once the characters sink in, it's damn good. Saiunkoku Monogatari is pretty much what I would say a story of a young girl’s personal life journey.
