Papercraft- NekoX01

Metallic Meow

After working on my new papercraft off and on for the past week, it’s finally finished! It’s only my second ever, and it seems to follow the theme of “fake cats”. It was a lot more difficult than my previous Chiyo-chichi papercraft, but it was definitely fun making it. And if you’re wondering about the name NekoX01, it’s called that because that’s what the original creator named this cat battleship.

Before I even started making the papercraft, I went around my house to try to find better tools. I previously only had a box-cutter and carpenter’s glue, that’s it. Then I got a cutting mat, an exacto-knife, and… this other strange tool I don’t know the name of =p Without these, it would make the whole process of making NekoX01 quite the headache.

So what is that black tool called anyways?

NekoX01 having so many cylindrical parts, it was quite the experience trying to glue that all together. I messed up a lot, and I’d find that after gluing together a loop, I’d either have excess paper flying over the edge, or too little paper left so that I can’t even complete the loop. I tried my best to hide it, lets hope it’s not TOO too noticeable. Overall, I’d say it looks DECENT, at least. Not a complete mess of paper thrown together with glue poured on, right? …Right?

LOAD SILVER SHELLS! FIRE!!

Now if you want to see how it would look when someone with actual skill makes it, then look no further than the original creator of the model [the site also has the template for NekoX01 in gif and PDO format]:

Quite the contrast to my version, ne?

So ends my battleship cat, now I wonder what new project I should start next… Preferably anime-related?
