This is an amazing series. Sorry to hear that you have a bias towards harem anime (just not my thing) But at least you give other types of shows a chance. Monster is up there on my top 5 list (and actually there is one series that is harem that makes my top 10 list and that harem is Saber Marionette J, just thought I'd let you know) :D I understand what you mean. The story picks up after the first season (so around the 15 ep mark) if I recall correctly. That's a huge flaw with this anime, since the story is so intricate, they take their time with the initial build up, which is how they lose a lot of viewers. Having watched it, I had several problems with this story right off. First, its just too japanese. The peoples reactions might be ok for japan, but this is supposed to be Germany, is a little different there, the cultural baggage that exists in Japan, doesn't in Germany. Next issue is regarding the operations. So he is a great doctor, I suppose all the other surgeons are incompetent. If he isn't leading the team, the people die. Please, he is 1 man, why is he getting all upset about this issue? Its truly pathetic. You are part of a team, if you aren't there, the team still is. These are all people who have trained and practiced medicine and surgery for years, your not being there shouldn't mean that the people you are unable to operate on will die...
