Bishoujo Rankings and etc

Minna, konbanwa!

It’s been a while since my last post and a few things have happened. First of all, I finished building my new computer and it is amazing, it takes everything I throw at it and doesn’t cringe. The 20.1″ widescreen monitor also makes anime a lot more enjoyable, if anyone wants detailed specs, just ask and I’ll post in a comment.

Secondly! I have stopped doing ZnT posts, so if you were counting on me to deliver summaries of the pink haired, mune no zero tsundere, you’ll have to wait for Soda to do so =P

Thirdly! I am leaving on vacation for a week starting tomorrow, so this will most likely be my last post until next Tuesday…unless HCII 8 comes out with enough time for me to blog it, which I hope it does. Stupid Hagu cliffhanger >_<

On to the meat of this post, and relevance to the first half of the post title. Bishoujos! We all love them, what would anime be without these beautiful, impossibly proportioned and rainbow haircolored godesses.

But who are the best of the best? Well, as with most anything, opinions diverge, but here are the queens in my mind:

Note* All images are the intellectual property of their rightful creators, I am in no way taking credit for their work and will remove them if asked.

5. Kuga Natsuki

Anime of origin: Mai HiME
Archetypes: Independant loner type, pseudo-tsundere, prideful ojou-sama
Moe catchphrases: Load Silver Cartridge!

The loner/delinquent of Mai HiME and the president of Mai Otome, Natsuki appealed to me because of her strong will and sense of direction. She never cared about what was going on around her and continued to pursue her own agenda. However, this alone would have been a detriment, but when she began to make friends and shed that tough girl exterior, a nice mix of pride and dependance came through. Aside from that, she has blue hair, which is pure win and has an attack phrase that sends shivers up my spine everytime I hear it.

4. Tsuruya (LOLfang-tan)

Anime of origin: Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
Archetypes: Energetic, off the wall senpai
Moe catchphrases: Hahahahahahaha…etc; nyoro~n

Actually when I first saw LOLfang-tan in ep 1, she was kind of annoying, but then as I realized that her hyperactivity and idiocyncracies were completely natural, she grew on me. Though she didn’t get much screen time, she was second only to one character in the whole show in my opinion (who is also on this list, take a guess who XD). Her laugh and the spinoff comics that exploded over 4chan and danbooru soon after her appearance are so cute you can’t help but love her. Here’s hoping that we’ll have a second season with lots more LOLfang-tan, or better yet, a spinoff anime with just her =D! …I can always dream can’t I?

3. Touka

Anime of origin: Utawarerumono
Archetypes: Loyal servant, tsundere
Moe catchphrases: …eh, I got nothing for her =(

My favourite character in Utaware by a long shot, crushing my previous favourite, Eruruu. Originally an enemy, Touka realized that her grudge against Hakuoro was a misunderstanding and since then swore to protect him. This leads to many comical scenes where she is insanely overprotective of her emperor. The tsundere is also strong in this one, with quite possibly THE BEST dere dere reaction that I’ve seen in a long time, if not ever. *points up* Combined with the amazing swordsmanship (katana wielding bishoujos are teh win) and she easily earns her bronze in this list.

2. Suzumiya Haruhi

Anime of origin: Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
Archetypes: Megolomaniac uber-tsundere
Moe catchphrases: Zen zen; Desho desho?…etc. (too many to list)

The main character from one of the most popular animes of all time, Suzumiya Haruhi. Being a huge fan of tsunderes, she’s sort of hard to ignore, but damn does her tsun tsun: dere dere ratio need some work. I think there was only the time when she and Kyon fell of the cliff and possibly the concert where we got to see some dere dere from this girl. The bunny girl costume and the guitar playing also contributed heavily to her ranking…I want that resin kit so badly >_< And although not really related to her per se, but her voice actress is amazing and one of the most versatile I've ever seen in action. And with the God of the universe out of the way, who claimed #1?

1. Asakura Nemu

Anime of origin: DC ~ Da Capo
Archetypes
: Queen of siscon, pseudo-tsundere
Moe catchphrases: Nii-san!

One of the most controversial characters ever, either you hate her or you love her. Sure she killed the competition in Da Capo, sure she reduced the godess Shirakawa Kotori to depression and sure she has a thing for her brother…but she’s so cute T_T The bell, the ribbons, everything! And you have to give her credit, many a siscon have bedded, made out, stolen a kiss and hugged their onii-chans, but only Nemu managed to marry hers! Beat that. Personally, I would have done the same. In terms of personality, she’s a realistic character, with good points and bad, both sides of her were heavily developed and reinforced making for a very immersive character that many could identify with. While this ranking may be biased, it works for me, so nyah! =D

Runner up(s)

Sonozaki Shion and Sonozaki Mion from killer lolis, Soda would kill me if I had not given them a mention, they are #6 on my list, but it was a tough decision between Natsuki and them.

Honourable Mentions:

Shirakawa Kotori, hah! Kotori fanboys have no excuse to kill me now.
Nagato Yuki, Rei clones are cool.
Ayu from Kanon, can’t wait to see the KyoAni remake.

These choices were made with extreme bias and I know there are probably much better choices out there but these are my opinions and I stand by them ^^. If anyone wants to put up a list of their own in a comment, feel free, it may just be enough to refresh my memory and revamp the list. But with a list of only 5, it’s hard to narrow down and accomodate my personal choices and calm the wrath of fanboys XD But good luck trying to pry Nemu from the top of that list, my fanboyism for her knows no limit!

So until next Tuesday…or until HC II comes out, that’s all from me!
